It’s full 53 yrs today since the lanky chora from Ganga kinare wala's maiden film Saat Hindustani was released.
In three days from now, i.e on November 11, 2022, Bollywood Shahenshah’s much-awaited film Uunchai will hit the theatres.
Uunchai has generated heights of excitement among filmi buffs, as Big B and Rajshri have joined hands.
Rajshri took five long decades after Saudagar to associate with Big B. As Sooraj said, In the 70s the banner was focused on making non-star-cast movies. It was more focused on making teenage movies. As they were not making action films and Bachchan had an action-hero image, they tend to stay away from him.
The significance of Rajshri in the Indian cine industry remains high as the oldest surviving production house. Right from Sachin Pilgaonkar to Salman Khan, several lead actors got the platform to build their stardom which they are boasting currently.
When Hindi cinemas in theatres are being bombed every weekend, filmi aficionados long to breathe fresh air with the Rajshri’s Uunchai. Rajshri banner is known for producing neat and artistic films, which a whole of family can enjoy sitting in one room.
Produced under the Rajshri film banner, Uunchai is a story of four friends and their journey of a lifetime friendship.
The movie helmed by Sooraj Badjatya, also starring Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, and Danny Denzongpa apart from Big B already is the talk of the town.
While only a few days are left for its release, coincidentally, November 7 marks the official entry of the tall and lanky man with a baritone voice.
On November 7 in 1969, Big B’s first film Saat Hindustani released in theatres. In this film helmed by Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, Bachchan played the fictional role of Anwar Ali, a poet from Ranchi.
From 1969 to 2022, the aura of Amitabh Bachchan dominates the cinema world. The nostalgia still makes many go crazy.
On November 7 in 1969, Big B’s first film Saat Hindustani released in theatres. In this film helmed by Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, Bachchan played the fictional role of Anwar Ali, a poet from Ranchi.
In this landmark movie, Bachchan introduced himself by saying: “Main hoon Anwar Ali. Bihar ke Ranchi ka rehne wala hoon aur shayri karta hoon.”

The story of the film revolves around the fight to liberate Goa from the Portuguese occupation. Seven people from different states of the country leave for Goa on this mission, one of them being Anwar Ali.
With his sincere efforts of becoming an actor, Bachchan bagged the ‘Newcomer’ award for his role. His first remuneration as an actor was Rs 5,000. Though the fee was not a lot at that time, it was not extremely less for a newcomer.
Earlier, during an interview, Bachchan said, “Agar Anwar Ali ke kirdar ke taur par mujhe break na mila hota, toh pata nahi mai aaj kis maukaam par hota. (If I had not got a break as Anwar Ali, I don’t know where I would be today.)”
Saat Hindustani was first released in Delhi’s Sheela Cinema. Newcomer Bachchan watched the first show with his parents at the theatre. However, before this, a trial screening of the film was also conducted. Bachchan specially invited actress Meena Kumari. Meena showered a lot of praise on Anwar Ali’s character which left Bachchan blushing.
Well, Saat Hindustani was a disaster at the box office. But, this couldn’t hide the emerging talent. However, it took four years for Bachchan to set his feet in the industry even though he had left an impression in the minds of movie lovers as Dr Bhaskar Banerjee in 1971’s Anand, also starring Superstar Rajesh Khanna.

Bachchan has left a trail of iconic performances in different roles. Be it action, comedy, or any other genre, Big B has nailed his characters and left everlasting impressions in the minds of movie lovers across several generations. Apart from acting, the legendary actor also has proven himself as a singer, driving every movie lover crazy. Big B boasts a huge fandom across generations and across the globe.
Being an institution in himself, Bachchan has been ruling Indian Cinema for over five decades now. Undeniably, there is no other actor in the world who has such a glorifying career.
Meanwhile, excitement and anticipation among fans for Uunchai have reached new heights. While movie lovers and admirers have showered praises for the living legend of Indian cinema, the anticipation for Uunchai narrates the entire tale.
Now, the phenomenal success of Karthikeya 2 has prompted the makers to come up with the third installment of the mystery adventure flick. As reported by Cine Critic Taran Adarsh, the makers have Karthikeya 3 on the cards.
Showering praises for the same, the Cine Critic on Sunday shared a video clip with a caption reading, "Veryyy few films stay in your heart and mind, much after the screening has ended... #Karthikeya2 is that special film... This is one film that deserves all the love, adulation and accolades... Strongly recommended!... Awaiting #Karthikeya3."
Meanwhile, the animated video clip shows Lord Shri Krishna sitting on the branch of a tree near a river bank while several peacocks are enjoying the mesmerising note of the flute.

Karthikeya 2 written and directed by Chandoo Mondeti presents the quest of Dr Karthikeya (Nikhil) to find the lost anklet of Lord Krishna. The unique concept of the Telugu-flick has been immensely appreciated by the audience in the Hindi belt.
As seen in the first part of the mystic thriller franchise, Karthikeya, a medical student by profession, believes that every question on the earth has an answer. His pursuit of the truth leads him to explore the truth behind a series of unnatural deaths by snakebites when he visits a village for a medical camp. The deaths were triggered after the victims tried to discuss about the closure of an ancient temple of Lord Karthikeya Kumar Swamy. His anxiousness escalated after he found a book describing the miraculous power of the temple.
However, during his quest to unearth the mystery behind such deaths, he barges into the temple where he finds out that all those deaths were prompted as a part of secret planning of robbing a priceless and unique diamond, worth more than the Kohinoor diamond. A government official had planned the robbery by joining hands with some foreign researchers and hypnotising snakes was a major part of the plan. The snake was hypnotised through animal magnetism or hypnotherapy.
Failing the robbery plan, Karthikeya develops faith in God. As teased towards the end of the flick, Karthikeya sets out on another mission to Goa with his close friends. As described, they were to visit a cave in Goa from where people don't return after entering it once.
However, the sequel served a different story in which Karthikeya sets out on a quest to find the anklet of Lord Krishna which has the solution to the problems faced by humans. Before setting out on this new quest, Karthikeya gets arrested after his mother goes missing. Following that he is attacked by people of an exiled cult known as the protectors of Lord Krishna's belongings. Later, to find out the answers, he sets out on a mission to find the anklet.
Finally, he finds the anklet and unfolds the mysterious link between Lord Krishan and the deep waters of the Atlantic ocean.
The challenges Karthikeya faced during his adventurous journey can be unlocked after watching the movie. This is certainly one of the reasons that has led the movie to rule the box office.
During the post-credit sequence it is shown that Dr Kartikeya is holding a key in his hand. Following that, a cinematic shot of a city is shown which is underwater and does have a big gate. The close shot of the gate shows a key hole. It seems, the key which is in hand of Kartikeya is supposed to be of the big gate. This has raised the anticipation for Karthikeya 3 and his new quest.
While the entire box office collection of Karthikeya 2 (Hindi) in the first week stood at Rs 5.75 crore, the total collection in the second weekend was Rs 9.57 crore. The buzz around Karthikeya 2 is much high and likewise, anticipation for Karthikeya 3 will be much higher.
Speaking about the third installment, TOI quoted Nikhil as saying, "Yes, since we have a character like Dr Karthik who is hell bent on unearthing exciting mysteries and having adventures. There are several more untold stories about our cultural heritage and we will be back for several more exciting instalments of Karthikeya."
This statement from the actor certainly indicates that it is not just the 3rd installment, the team will come up with more of such mystery adventures.
Nikhil is quite enthralled over the phenomenal success of his latest release and how the audience accepted and showered love for it.

Anupam says: "Kangana's interpretation of J. P. Narayan is fascinating. She believes and it's also the truth that J. P. Narayan is a hero of the film not just because I am playing the character but because that's what he was. Her treatment of the character is like that of a hero."
He goes on: "As far as essaying the role is concerned, even though I did my own research, Kangana made my job easy by providing me with her interpretation and the homework that she had done."
"That's why it was easy to step into the shoes of J. P. Narayan. When you have a director, who knows his or her job, it becomes easy for an actor to follow those instructions and perform. Of course, there is hard work that goes into it but I am very happy that I am essaying the role of a historical figure who changed the scenario of independent India," he adds.
The movie is all about the Emergency, which was declared by late PM Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975 and lasted till 21 March 1977.
Kangana, who is seen as late PM Indira Gandhi in the film, spoke about bringing him on board and the reason behind it.
"J. P. Narayan was the most powerful human being to have happened after Mahatma Gandhi in politics in recent Indian history. The kind of influence he had on people was enormous. I wanted an actor who had the personality and calibre to match up to that larger than life persona of Loknayak J. P. Narayan."
"Anupamji with his stature, acting skills, his overall persona fits into the role perfectly. I am privileged and humbled that he chose my script. I am nobody to choose him. He chose my script and I am honoured, to say the least," she concludes.
Manikarnika films presents 'Emergency' which is written and directed by Kangana. The film is produced by Renu Pitti and Kangana Ranaut. The screenplay and dialogues are by Ritesh Shah.
Be it in a comic role, a cop, antagonist or any other character, Kher has earned loyal admirers with his spectacular performances in different roles. Even his recent performance as a Kashmiri Pandit has wrenched the hearts of every Indian Hindu as well as movie lovers.
Now, the actor has turned into a massage therapist but not for any of his movies! He donned this role to please his producer.
The Kashmir Files actor shared a video on his Instagram in which he is seen giving a head massage to director, actor and producer Satish Kaushik. Even Kaushik is seen enjoying the massage session.
Kher captioned the video, " Couldn’t resist giving massage to @satishkaushik2178’s bald but not beautiful ( that is mine) head! On the sets of #Kaagaz2!! 😬👨🦲😝 #Friends # Actors #Fun #BaldIsBeautiful"
In the video, Kher says, "Producer ko khus karne ke liye dekho kya kya karna padta hai, Malish, Tel Malish, Tel Malish...(See what all I have to do to please the producer).
While enjoying the massage, Kaushik says, "Aise extra dates bhi de de bas..(Give me extra dates as well)."
Kaushik was enjoying the massage and moaning out to which Kher said, "Aisi awazen na nikal, log galat samajh jayenge (Don't make such sounds, people it take it other ways)."
The Tere Naam director appreciated his massaging skills and said, "You are such a good massager, actor ke ilawa yeh kam bhi...(Apart from being a good actor, you can also do this work!)."
To this, Kher replied, "Kam nahi mil raha tha toh yehi toh karta tha (When I didn't get any work, I did this work only)."
Kaushik went on to add, "Production ki tension tune dur kar di (You have reduced my production tension). Thank you my dear Thank you my dear so much, what a massager and actor."
Later, Kaushik got up from his place and hugged Kher.
While the duo enjoyed a lot during their break at the shooting set, fans also loved the bromance. Several Instagram users poured such comments on the post.
Earlier, Kher had invited actor Ranvir Shorey and gifted him an iPhone. He shared a video capturing Shorey's reaction.
Shorey was elated to receive the gift and expressed his happiness in the video. His reactions are worth-watching.
His journey started with Rajshri-produced Saaransh directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Interestingly, at that time he was just 28 years old but in his first movie played the role of a 65-year-old man.
He won Filmfare for the Best actor for Saaransh and since then he has worked in more than 500 movies proving his mastery over acting and versatility repeatedly. A recipient of two National Awards and eight Filmfare Awards, Anupam Kher has also worked in international movies like Bend it Like Beckham, Lust, Caution, Silver Linings Playbook, and Hotel Mumbai.
He was also nominated for BAFTA as a supporting actor for his role in the British sitcom The Boy with the Topknot.
Post-Saaransh Anupam Kher delivered some astonishing performances. Be it Dr. Dang in Karma where he worked with Bollywood greats like Dilip Kumar, Nutan, and Naseeruddin Shah, or his supporting roles in Chandni, Lamhe, Chaalbaaz, his ever so loved Daddy with Pooja Bhatt Anupam Kher proved that he can perform any role to conviction.
Post-Karma, Anupam became a hot favourite of Subhash Ghai and was a part of his many following movies like Ram Lakhan and Saudagar. His team with Anil Kapoor in Yash Chopra, Subhash Ghai, and Rakesh Roshan’s movies was loved very much.
His roles in blockbusters like Tezaab, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Darr, Veer Zaara, Laadla, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil, became iconic and even today fans remember his characters because Anupam had made them memorable through his acting prowess.
He has also served as the Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India, written a bestseller titled The Best Thing About You is You, and penned his biography Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly. In the year 2020, Anupam Kher released another book titled Your Best is Today which was based on his experience during the COVID-19 period.
His recent release The Kashmir Files, which was a big hit, revolved around the atrocities that Kashmiri Pandits faced during the 1990 genocide. Anupam, himself a Kashmiri Pandit, aggressively promoted the movie on various platforms in India, and abroad and without any support from Bollywood. But the movie earned 200 plus crore at the box office.
This Vivek Agnihotri-directed movie can be considered the biggest solo hit of Anupam’s career. And irrespective of all his earlier movies, The Kashmir Files will always take the top spot.
For many, the movie has been like a movement that needs to be taken further ahead and everyone, who has been impressed by the way Vivek Agnihotri has presented the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, is doing his bit to support it in one way or the other.
One of the rickshaw drivers has pledged that he will give free rides to all the passengers who are going to the theaters to watch The Kashmir Files. A video showing the rickshaw driver surfaced on Twitter recently in which he says, “Hum free mein chod rahe hai. Hum nahi lenge. Duniya sab kuch kar rahi aur dekhna chahiye yeh sab kuch. Har Hindu ko dekhani chahiye. Iske liye jan seva karenge. Yeh film jo dekhane ayenge unki sewa mein hum lag gaye hai.”

Even the saints from the Udupi Math watched the movie in the cinema hall which is a very rare thing. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust committee member Udupi Peejavar Swamiji and Kaniyur Swamiji came to the cinema hall to watch the Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Mithun Chakraborty-led movie.

However, many Kashmiri Pandits who themselves were forced to leave Kashmir or were witness to the violence that happened in Kashmir more than three decades ago have come forward confirming the authenticity of the content shown in the Anupam Kher-led flick. Now, a video of a 40 plus man has surfaced online in which he can be seen saying, “You see that the movie opens with a young boy playing cricket. He is caught and beaten up for cheering for India. That is me. I was 10 years of age at that time.”
He spoke after 30 years but still fears to show his face
— Grey (@Grey603031572) March 18, 2022
He further added that it is possible to stitch different stories and make them into one but it is not always possible to make such stories every time. Reactions started pouring in from the Twitter users after the video got viral with many questioning whether the man in the video is really 40 plus because he really looked young.
So this is supposed to be prior to the exodus .. ?? And that time the kid is 10 years old.. and now we are in 2022..

Another user said that the fear in his face is quite evident even though it happened 30 years ago. One of the users who seems to be from Kashmir said that during those times if India was winning a match against Pakistan, everywhere there was a blackout and no one was allowed to celebrate India’s win.
This screening was at the NJ theater where my friend was at. She said that people in the lobby started to cry when this young man was telling his story. Even the people who worked at the theater started to cry. Very emotional and incredible film. Deserves National Award.
— Ravi Yande (@ravireport) March 19, 2022
According to a user, the video of the man was taken at the NJ theater and after hearing the story of the man, everyone in the theater started crying and even those who worked at the theater could not hold their tears.
However, yesterday when Anupam Kher the lead actor of The Kashmir Files clarified that he himself decided to opt-out of the show as the content of his movie was very serious and sensitive and not suitable to the format of TKSS, things started to cool down.
Kapil shared the same video on his Twitter handle and thanked Kher Saab for clarifying the issue. However, later on, the Saransh actor trolled Kapil saying that he should have shared the entire video that also included the comments of the director Vivek Agnihotri.
Dear @KapilSharmaK9 ! I wish you had posted the full video and not the half truth. The entire world is celebrating, you also celebrate tonight. Love and prayers always! 🙏🌈 https://t.co/QS3i5tIzh8

While now slowly the controversy is cooling down, Kapil Sharma seems to have gained a few more followers from none other than our neighboring country Pakistan who habe now started showering love on the famous standup comedian.
A couple of users tweeted, “We love you from Pakistan.” There were a few Indian users who also slammed Kapil for not promoting or supporting The Kashmir Files.
It is not only Kapil, but the majority of the Bollywood A-listed stars did not promote the movie as they promote the other ventures. It was after Akshay Kumar congratulated Anupam Kher for his fantastic performance in The Kashmir Files and Kangana Ranaut lambasted Bollywood for ignoring this movie, that slowly reactions have started pouring in.
Late in the evening yesterday, Riteish Deshmukh and Sunil Shetty also promoted The Kashmir Files on their social media platforms. Yami Gautam, who is married to a Kashmiri Pandit Aditya Dhar, also supported and promoted the film.

This statement created a lot of debate on social media with many users slamming Kapil Sharma for his dubious standards which led to the #boycottkapilsharmashow trend on Twitter. In reply, the famous comedian had just shared that comments should not be made based on only one-sided information. Now Anupam Kher who has appeared a couple of times on The Kapil Sharma Show has finally replied on why exactly he and the other actors from The Kashmir Files did not appear on TKSS.
Thank you paji @AnupamPKher for clarifying all the false allegations against me ❤️🙏 और उन सब दोस्तों का भी शुक्रिया जिन्होंने बिना सच जाने मुझे इतनी मोहब्बत दी 😃 खुश रहिए, मुस्कुराते रहिये 🙏 #thekapilsharmashow #Isupportmyself 🤗 pic.twitter.com/hMxiIy9W8x
— Kapil Sharma (@KapilSharmaK9) March 14, 2022
During his interview on national television, Anupam Kher said that his manager had told him two months ago that he has been invited to represent The Kashmir Files on The Kapil Sharma Show, but since it is a comedy show and The Kashmir Files is a serious and sensitive movie, he decided not to appear on the show. The Karma actor further added that it is very difficult to come up with a fun show and that Kapil does it very well.
So that puts the allegations against the top-notch Indian comedian to rest. Immediately after Anupam Kher’s interview went viral, Kapil shared it on his social media handle and thanked the Saransh actor for clearing all the allegations against him. He sarcastically also thanked all those Twitter users who gave him a lot of love without knowing the truth.
यह सच नहीं है rathore साहब 😊 आपने पूछा इसलिए बता दिया, बाक़ी जिन्होंने सच मान ही लिया उनको explanation देने का क्या फ़ायदा. Just a suggestion as a experienced social media user:- never believe in one sided story in today’s social media world 😊 dhanyawaad 🙏 https://t.co/pJxmf0JlN5

Now a few users are saying that all these tactics were used to hype the movie on a large scale. Whatever the truth might be, The Kashmir Files has managed to beat all the commercial estimates and emerged a winner.
Billed as one of the most important yet unreported story of contemporary Indian history, ‘The Kashmir Files’ chronicles the tragic tale of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s and the genocide that took place.
The Anupam Kher-Mithun Chakraborty starrer movie, initially slated for release on Republic Day 2022, but later postponed due to Covid, has now earned massive attention from the audience since its release in theatres on March 11.
It has already raked up more than Rs 15 crore in its first three days of release despite tough competition from star-studded flicks like Prabhas starrer 'Radhe Shyam' and Alia Bhatt's ' Gangubai Kathiawadi.
But the heap of appreciation for the movie has also attracted some naysayers. From some views on Bollywood's conspicuous silence to stopping the movie from screening in Jammu, to Kerala Congress' "Kashmir Files Vs Truth" narrative, the movie has become the hottest topic in the country now.
Amid the clamour, the maker of the film Vivek Agnihotri on Monday came in full defence of the idea behind the movie. Addressing a presser, Vivek gave an eye-opening account of how his hard-worked project is much more than any conventional sort of entertainment but a lesson for the entire world on diplomacy's victory against conflict.
Vivek recounted how his days during the month-long special screening of the highly-anticipated movie last year in the United States, was indeed diplomatic victory for India.
In his recount of a tour to US in 2018-19 to introduce the Kashmir Files, Vivek said, "I found massive hoardings in Times Square and New York airport which were put up with funding from some Indian people with message 'Free Kashmir'. But in reality a hate campaign was run in the US to show how Kashmir is not an integral part of India. Back then, many Indian authors and columnists also did not back down from to tarnish the image of our country. So we decided to take up the project and took up immense pains to show our idea - The Kashmir Files - to expose the reality of Kashmir issue, the struggle of Kashmiri Pandits. We did not have any motto to show the film to Indians in the US, but to people across all lines of demography and geography.”
Vivek said that the pre-release screenings took the US by storm and was received with such fervour that a special Congressional reception was hosted at the Capitol Hill. During the event, even those Congressmen who were indirectly involved in the Anti-India Kashmir campaign, had to accept that it was 'not an exodus but a genocide'.
It is such a massive diplomatic victory for India whose importance can be felt in years to come, said Vivek.
'The Kashmir Files' is not only for India, but for the entire world.
The noted filmmaker further explained that in the aftermath of World War II crisis, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) sought cooperation from Hollywood if it could contribute to propagate America's superiority across the globe. The cine industry too pledged to work as soft power to picture the country's rising status of a global superpower. And we know what has been happening ever since. How Hollywood films have managed to picturise America as the strongest country in the world, that even a slum kid from anywhere in the world would say so, he said.
Vivek justified the reason behind choosing the idea behind the The Kashmir Files so that movies would begin portraying India's rise as superpower just like Hollywood does for the US.
Amid the change in the present world order, as the entire globe starts to realise the India's rise as an unstoppable power, we also continue to face numerous attacks from all around. And one of the most sensitive issues which have been used to target India is the Kashmir issue, said Vivek.
As expected, Anupam Kher shines in the movie and now he has come out with a video on his social media handle promoting the movie in a full-fledged way. Being a Kashmiri Pandit himself, the actor has closely observed the pain that these people suffered.
In his post, Anupam has penned that he is the witness of The Kashmir Files, and those who were killed cruelly in Kashmir or started living as dead after the atrocities or were uprooted from their native land are still waiting for justice. The Saransh actor further added that he is the voice and face of those Kashmiri people.
💔 pic.twitter.com/d2msvxzw8h
— Anupam Kher (@AnupamPKher) March 11, 2022
In the video, the famous actor can be seen saying that with the grace of God, he has completed 522 movies, plays characters, make people cry and laugh and that is his Saransh. But this time (in The Kashmir Files), he did not portray a character or act. He further adds that 32 years ago hundreds of Kashmiri people from old to young, his close people, and everyone suffered hugely as if all parts of his body including his hands, legs, and other organs were crushed.
Anupam Kher gets very emotional while narrating the incidences that the Kashmiri Pandits faced. Another celebrity who is also a Kashmiri pandit and has supported The Kashmir Files is former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina. In his post, Raina has said that now it is the movie of the audience and if it touches their heart, they must raise their voice against injustice that was done to the Kashmiri pandits 32 years ago.

Apart from Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, and Prakash Belawadi have also delivered splendid performance in The Kashmir Files.
And, the trend has now also caught up with veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher. The famous actor gave an interesting twist to the popular Samdhan song from his superhit movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun movie with the lyrics of O Antava matching the clips from the song.

Titled as “Samdhanji is back”, it is a hilarious twist and was shared as a tribute to the song from Pushpa by Anupam Kher. Apart from Anupam, the song shows Reema Lagoo, Ajit Wachhani, Madhuri Dixit, and Aloknath lip-synching to O Antava. Followers of Anupam loved this hilarious twist and called the version “Cool” and “Interesting.” Of course, there were a few who thought that it was not in good taste.
This is the first item song of Tollywood superstar Samantha Ruth Prabhu and looking at the way it has received appreciation from both the masses and classes, she may do more such numbers in the future. Interestingly, Samantha was paid Rs 5 crore for this item song which is much more than ever received by any big Indian actress.
Reportedly, Katrina Kaif, Nora Fatehi, and Jacqueline Fernandez were also never paid such a huge amount for their item songs in music videos or Bollywood movies. The pan India popularity of this song is sure to pave way for such opportunities for Samantha in the days to come.
The girl can be heard communicating in fluent English despite the fact that she has never been to school. While talking to Anupam, the girl revealed that she is Aarti and that she hailed from Rajashthan. Aarti revealed in the video that she was forced to beg on the streets since no one gave her a job. She also told the actor that she wanted to attend school.
Later, Anupam took her contact details and promised to send her to school. Watch this video.
'The Accidental Prime Minister', the movie based on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is set to hit the theaters on January 11 but prior to that, it has already created much buzz with several PILs being moved seeking a ban on even the trailer of the movie.
As per a report of The Hindu, the Kanti police has been ordered to lodge an FIR against Akshaye Khanna, Anupam Kher and 15 others, including the producer and director of the movie, while hearing a plea of an advocate who claimed that the film has portrayed the former PM and other public figures in bad light.
“The way public figures are portrayed in the film presents a poor image of the country as well,” the advocate said in his complaint, reported The Hindu.
Meanwhile, 'The Accidental Prime Minister' producer Sunil Bohra has said that he knew there will be conjectures about it being a propaganda film but he is confident that the movie will be a game changer for political cinema in India.
"Welcome to the 'actors' world. You are fantastic in 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'. Real, gutsy and a performer," Anupam tweeted on Monday.
The 63-year-old actor asked Vicky to remember that he is his own competition.
"The more difficult you make your jo, the more you will explore it. Love and best wishes always," Anupam added.
The military drama is based on the 2016 surgical strike carried out by the Indian Armed forces across the border.
The movie, released earlier this month, also stars Yami Gautam and Mohit Raina.
The film sees Vicky playing the role of an Indian commando who is involved in the 2016 surgical strikes. It also features Kirti Kulhari and Paresh Rawal in lead roles.
And how much more real can it get than Anupam Kher as Mr. Singh? The beard, the turban, the soft hushed barely audible voice (make sure you get your seats in a Dolby equipped theatre)... Anupam gets the externals so right that we scarcely care about what lies beneath, writes Subhash K. Jha.
And what lies! If we are to believe this film, then Manmohan Singh was a 'baba' in the woods, an angel in disguise, a scholar and academician thrown into the cesspit of politics, manipulated into supporting the Congress monarchy by a scheming mother-son pair. And we all know who they are, giggle giggle.
There is nothing accidental about "The Accidental Prime Minister". The not-so-hidden agenda is to show Sonia Gandhi and her two children in the worst light possible. And it can't get any worse than Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi. Suzanne arches her eyebrows so sharply, I feared for her facial well-being.
Every actor cast as real-life politicians has been given a clear brief to look as much as the real-life politician as possible. The line between acting and mimicry is invisible in the politics that underlines this political charade. In the theatre, I heard delighted exclamations of recognition, the kind we hear when a stand-up comedian does an Amitabh Bachchan or a Shatrughan Sinha on stage.
If you want to play spot-the-politician, this film is huge fun. My top prize for the most enjoyable mimicry goes to the talented Arjun Mathur and Aahana Kumra as Rahul and Sonia Gandhi. If ever the real Gandhi siblings need duplicates while they holiday abroad, they know where to go.
The only actor not doing an impersonation is Akshaye Khanna. Playing Sanjaya Baru, Akshaye brings to the proceedings a gravitas that this film doesn't need or deserve. He is like that one honest bureaucrat in an office filled with bribe takers. But he has his uses.
Akshaye and Anupam anchor the plot (and I am not talking about just the screenplay but the plot that underlines the raison d'etre of this film). Their exchanges exhibit sparks of unexpected irony and intelligence, as if two actors recognise the potential in each other knowing fully well their collective wisdom is unsupported by anything else around them.
Both these actors make the hullabaloo over Singh and the Gandhis look more tenable than it would have without them.
"The Accidental Prime Minister" works well as a pantomime of power politics. Beyond that, we will have to wait for another day, another time, another regime.
Earlier in the day, Satyajeet Tambe Patil - President of the Maharashtra State Youth Congress, sent a letter to the producer of the film demanding a special screening before it is released. He raised objections to "incorrect presentation of the facts" in the film, the trailer of which was released on Thursday.
Sharing his view on the issue, Kher, who is narrating the character of Singh, told the media: "It's nobody's right to ask us to show our film to them before releasing it. The film is based on the book (by the same title), and it is based on facts.
"We have bought the rights and have followed all the legalities. Everything was in the public domain... Now, how can people have issues? Why should I screen it for anyone? We have shown it to the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), that's enough."
However, he added: "If Dr Manmohan Singh asks us, we will show him for sure."
Directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, the film also features Akshaye Khanna, Aahana Kumra and Arjun Mathur, among others.
While many Congress members found the film objectionable, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promoted its trailer in social media.
"I have done more than 500 films...there are not even that many political parties. So how can one say that I made this film to support any party?" he responded when mediapersons asked if he is doing the film to extend support to the BJP.
Asked if this is one of the strategies to make a political statement ahead of the 2019 elections, the National award winning actor said: "Why not? What is the problem in releasing a political film around elections? We do release patriotic films on national holidays..."
The film is scheduled to release on January 11.
"The news of ban on the movie 'The Accidental Prime Minister' by Madhya Pradesh government is wrong and misleading," the state's Public Relations Department said in a tweet.
The biographical political drama, scheduled to release on January 11, has already raised political temperatures with the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) latching on to it to hit out at the Gandhi family while the Congress has questioned the BJP's motive behind "promoting the film" and raised objections to the "incorrect presentation of the facts" in the film, the trailer of which was released on Thursday.
"Thank you IndiaGlobal at Cambridge MIT Sloan School... This honour gives me a further sense of responsibility towards my country. A lower middle class Kashmiri boy from Shimla has come a long way," Anupam tweeted on Sunday.
He also shared a few photographs from the event and he is seen holding up a frame which has details about the honour.
The full-day India Global Summit at MIT Sloan School of Management was an opportunity to learn about India's emerging influence in the global economy. Anupam was one of the key speakers.
The actor, who has featured in over 500 movies, has been busy shooting in New York for American series "New Amsterdam". Earlier, he resigned as chief of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) due to his work commitment.
"It has been an honour, a privilege and a great learning experience to be the Chairman of the prestigious FTII. But because of my international assignments, I won't have much time to devote at the institute. Hence decided to send my resignation," Anupam said in a letter to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
The letter, sent on Tuesday, was released by Anupam on Wednesday. He requested the Ministry to scout for someone suitable for the post during his notice period.
An actor with a repertoire of over 500 movies including international projects, Anupam was named for the top post in October 2017. His predecessor Gajendra Chauhan's tenure was marked by controversies and protests by students at the FTII campus.
Anupam has been busy working in the US on American show "New Amsterdam", which has now been extended.
In the letter, he said: "This decision has not come without considerable thought of the responsibilities expected of me vis-a-vis the time I have at my disposal to execute them. At the time when I was officially approached by the former Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to be appointed as the Chairman, I did share with her that I was due to be stationed in the US for nearly six months for an international TV show.
"The latest news now is that the show has been given a further extension of four months. This translates into me being stationed in the US for nearly nine months between 2018-2019, and then for a similar period for a minimum of three years or more. Given this assignment, it would not be fair to me, the students and the management team for me to hold a position of such responsibility and accountability without being actively involved in the operations," the actor wrote.
On Wednesday, the first meeting of the new FTII Society and governing council was held in Mumbai. Actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik was elected Vice President of the FTII Society.
NBC has given out the first series order from its pilot crop for the 2018-2019 season, reports variety.com.
An excited Anupam, 63, said that the pilot "New Amsterdam", which he shot for in New York has been picked up to be a series.
"Happy to share the great news! The NBC pilot 'New Amsterdam', I shot for in New York has been picked up to be a series now. Here comes the Indian Actor to join the cast and crew in New York. David Schulner, Peter Horton, Kate Dennis, Ryan Eggold, Jayr Monty," he wrote on Saturday.
He also posted a series of photograph with actress Freema Agyeman and wrote that he is looking forward to working with her in the a series.
"Dearest Freema my favourite co actor from 'Sense8'! Looking forward to sharing the screen space with you in the new NBC series 'New Amsterdam'," he wrote.
Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in America, the series follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin played by Ryan Eggold, the institution's newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care.
In addition to Eggold, Anupam and Agyeman, the cast of the series also includes Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, and Tyler Labine.
"New Amsterdam" is produced by Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions and Mount Moriah. The project was set up at NBC in September with a put pilot commitment.
Anupam, along with Maniesh Paul and Mika Singh, was spotted on a film set, shooting a club song for their upcoming movie "Baa Baa Black Sheep" here on Tuesday.
On his acting journey, Anupam said: "This is my 35th year in the film industry and this is my 512th film. My competition is not with my age actors. I have competition with Varun Dhawan and Manish Paul.
"I think when you don't have fear of failure, you experiment a lot more. I don't want people to call me a legend or thespian. When people call you a thespian, it is your time to pack your bags. I think it's just the beginning for me."
He says shooting for "Baa Baa Black Sheep" has been an enjoyable experience.
"I am very happy that Mika Singh has lent his voice to our film. Maniesh Paul is brilliant in the film and this is a hilarious film. I really had great time shooting for this film and I hope people will have fun when they watch it."
Anupam lost 15 kg in the recent past.
On his transformation, he said: "I had never lost weight earlier, but for this film I saw that possibility because it's double-edged role. One of it is an old comedian father but later Maniesh's character realizes that he is a contract killer. So I feel that to look visually different, I had to shed some weight... So now, I feel it has worked out very well."
"Baa Baa Black Sheep" is the story of an honest common man (Anupam) and his son (Maniesh).
Releasing on March 9, it is directed by Vishwas Paandya and produced by Anand Swarup Agarwal and Krishna Datla.
Anupam on Tuesday shared a photograph with his back towards the camera.
“‘I always believe that the sky is the beginning of the limit.’ Happy to start my 511th film today here in Ranchi. On the first day of my shoot I always feel like a new comer,” he tweeted.
The actor, 62, is feeling nervous.
“Nervous, apprehensive and thankful. God has been kind. And you all have been really loving. Jai Ho,” he added.
Other details related to the film is still has not been shared.
Anupam will also be seen in “The Accidental Prime Minister”. It stars the actor as Manmohan Singh, the economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014.
“The Accidental Prime Minister” is directed by Vijay Gutte. The film is based on the similarly titled 2014 memoir by Sanjaya Baru, who was Manmohan Singh’s media advisor.
What does Anupam have to say about those not happy with his new post?
"Oh, them," he said.
"They have always been around whenever I have been given a governmental position. When I was made the Chairperson of the CBFC, they said there would be a clash of interest with my relationship with producers and the film fraternity. When I took up stage acting very seriously, they said there would be a clash of interest with my film assignments.
"So if they had not come forward now, I'd have missed them. But no, I am not worried about any clash of interest. I prioritise my various commitments in a very systematic way," Anupam added.
What would Anupam like to say to the students of FTII?
"Wait and watch. Let me first catch my breath, interact with you and then let me do my job. Judge me after that."
On Thursday, the FTII Students' Association wrote an open letter to the actor, drawing his attention towards nine key issues of the institute.
Has Anupam thought of what he would like to do at the FTII, a premier institute for filmmaking enthusiasts.
"It is too early to start planning. I first need to appraise the situation and meet all my team members there. From what I gather, the FTII is running smoothly, so I won't ruffle the status quo just to let the world know of my presence. But yes, eventually there will be changes.
"I've never been scared of failing. If I was, I wouldn't have played a 65-year-old man when I was only 25 (in Mahesh Bhatt's 'Saaraansh'). Today when I am approaching 65, I don't think there is any responsibility I wouldn't be up to," said the 62-year-old.
Anupam said he enjoys every challenge equally.
"I had already started making 'Ranchi Diaries' in Jharkhand when I suggested to the local administration, why not have proper film industry in the state? 'MS Dhoni...' was shot there, so was 'Begum Jaan'. They said, 'Yes, why not?' By the time I landed back in Mumbai, they had already appointed me the Chairperson of the Jharkhand Film Development Corporation.
"I decided, why not? Every challenge is fine by me. I am being asked why I did that small role in 'Judwaa 2'? I did it for the fun of being in both parts of the franchise and for my long association with David Dhawan. I don't forget friends or abandon associations as per my convenience or inconvenience. I think that's one reason why I am given such huge responsibilities."
Official sources confirmed Anupam's appointment. He will succeed the controversial Gajendra Chauhan, whose appointment had triggered student protests.
Anupam's wife Kirron Kher, an actress and BJP MP from Chandigarh, told Times NOW: "I'm very happy. Of course, it's a challenging job for anybody. It's not going to be an easy job. These chairmanships are crown of thorns. Here, people do get against you, but I am sure Anupam will be able to take them along because he is an extremely talented person."
Anupam, who began his acting career with "Saaransh" in 1984, also has his own acting institute Actor Prepares.
Kirron said Anupam was the right choice to head the FTII, which provides training in acting, direction and other technical aspects of film making in a country which is one of the largest producers of movies.
"My husband is a very fine actor. He has been in the film industry for so many years. He is very capable of (being FTII head).
"He has been teaching acting for so long. He is the only person who earlier headed CBFC, then National School of Drama and now has been appointed Chairman of FTII.
"So, I am a very proud wife today. I would like to thank the government and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry," she said.
Asked what she meant by ‘crown of thorns', she said: "I meant the CBFC, not FTII."
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted: "Heartiest congratulations to Anupam Kher for being appointed as the Chairman of FTII."
Filmmaker Pritish Nandy called it an "excellent change" at FTII. "Finally, the government is listening to us."
Actor Kabir Bedi said Anupam "would do wonders" in his new role.
Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and Kailash Kher were also present at the event.
Asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative is working or not, Kher said: "You can't judge a campaign like this in terms of whether it is working or not... I think this is a revolution and things like these take time to gather momentum.
"But we are witnessing the result right now in our country, we are here organising such a massive event and Amitabh Bachchan is participating in it, so it speaks for itself on the success level.
"So rather than pointing out things which are lacking, I think contributing would go a long way."
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, that aims for a cleaner and more hygienic India, has been one of the key initiatives of the Modi government. The cleanliness drive was launched on October 2, 2014 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Kher also cited his recent experience of working with a crew to clean a busy street of Juhu.
"I would see this pile of garbage every day on my way to work, right in front of shops on the main road itself. I tried to talk to people and shopkeepers to have it clean but things didn't work out.
"So I cleaned it myself. And I agree with what Amitabh Bachchan said 'you're always a little hesitant to make a clean place dirty', which is very true. I can keep my ten yards clean, I am sure we Indians owe that much to our country," he said.
Contribute towards cleanliness and also pay special attention to toilets for females, especially in smaller cities and towns, added Kher.
Film: "Indu Sarkar"; Director: Madhur Bhandarkar; Cast: Kirti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Anupam Kher, Sheeba Chaddha and Parvin Dabas, Rating: **
A political drama with a detailed disclaimer about hurting the sentiments of anyone, Madhur Bhandarkar's controversial "Indu Sarkar" is a cleverly plotted propaganda film.
Set in the backdrop of the dark phase of the 1975 Emergency, the film begins with the horrific atrocities committed by the government of that period. Soon, the narrative changes track to capture the travails of an ordinary woman called Indu Sarkar.
Indu is a simple, reticent and unconfident orphan who marries a government employee, Navin Sarkar, thus the title "Indu Sarkar". Indu's only ambition is to be a good dutiful wife, whereas Navin's is to rise the ranks in his office and thereby ensure he leads a comfortable life in future.
But when the government declares the Emergency, his superior -- the politician Om Nath -- tells him to do something to the effect build your dreams and work hard during the Emergency... your dreams will be fulfilled. So, Navin works blindly and earnestly by following diktats.
Soon, the ideologies of Indu and her husband clash. How their lives interweave with the political scenario, forms the crux of the tale.
This piece of fiction, written by Anil Pandey and Madhur Bhandarkar, has based its research on the Shah Commission Report and is shrewdly mounted. The script gives a fair display of human selfishness and spinelessness and the film is disturbing. It reminds you of the tough moments an obtuse government can create.
The film, mounted as a realistic drama, offers the grit and effervescence of the period. The sepia tone frames and the crabby background score all add to the aura.
The qawalli, though unwarranted, breaks the momentum of the seriousness of the subject, thus making you realise that this is only fiction.
Kirti Kulhari is a natural performer and as the eponymous character Indu, she is excellent. She effortlessly renders her character of a stammering young lady who is soft at heart yet hard during tough moments.
She is aptly supported by the powerful actor Tota Roy Chowdhury as her husband Navin.
Neil Nitin Mukesh, a competent actor, plays Chief -- the extra constitutional authority who is protecting the interest of his mother -- with aplomb.
With a few ineffective scenes and nothing meaningful to offer, Anupam Kher as the political fighter Nanaji is wasted.
The other actors who have their moments of onscreen glory are: Sheeba Chaddha who plays Mekhla, a distraught mother who gets into social service and later the Himmat India Sangathan, and the actors who play the politician Om Nath and police officers Misha and Sodhi.
For its 139-minute duration, the film seems stretched. The narrative is reiterated in the last act, making the viewing a tedious fare.
Katrina and Salman were sharing the stage at the kick-off press conference of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards here on Thursday evening.
Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Anupam Kher, Kriti Sanon, Sushant Singh Rajput and Varun Dhawan too were on the stage and were talking about their IIFA experience one by one.
When it was Salman's chance, he consulted Anupam about when the "date" of the IIFA Awards was. Given his quick wit, Salman then added: "I am very bad with dates... The only date I remember is Katrina's birthday."
He paused and added that it is Katrina's birthday on July 16. He then started singing "Happy Birthday to you... Happy Birthday dear Katrina", before moving forward to give her a side hug and a peck on the cheek.
Katrina, who will celebrate her birthday in the Big Apple, smiled away.
Later, at a limited media gathering, when Katrina was asked a memorable thing she did when she was 18, she said: "I met Salman."
When Salman was asked what he is planning to do for Katrina's birthday, he Katrina said: "It's not a national event...."
Salman then promptly quipped: "India mein toh chhutti hai... Ab US mein bhi ho jaayega (It's a holiday in India, and it might happen in US too)."
Anupam released the first-look poster of the film on Wednesday.
"To reinvent yourself as an actor is to challenge yourself. Looking forward to portraying Manmohan Singh in 'The Accidental Prime Minister'," Anupam tweeted.
The black and white poster shows the side profile of Anupam, dressed as Manmohan Singh -- complete with a white beard and turban. The focus of the poster is, however, more on the silhouette of a woman -- presumably Congress President Sonia Gandhi -- standing in the corridors of Parliament House.
The deliberate placement of the silhouette near Aupam's ear portrays the numerous layers that were perhaps behind the persona and the role of Singh, who was criticised for rarely being verbal and taking actions on his own.
Directed by debutant Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, the memoir by Baru is expected to hit the screens in December 2018, just ahead of the next general election in 2019.
Screenplay for the movie has been written by National Award winning director Hansal Mehta.
Besides Anupam, rest of the cast is yet to be decided.
The 62-year-old actor also said that he is looking forward to the authorised biopic on the martial arts legend and actor Bruce Lee.
"One of finest directors of our country Shekhar Kapur directs a biography I have been looking forward to. Jai Ho" Anupam tweeted.
Kapur, who helmed the Oscar winning film "Elizabeth", is set to direct "Little Dragon", an authorised biopic of Bruce Lee.
"Little Dragon" will be a contemporary dramatisation of the 1950s Hong Kong social and political forces that shaped Bruce Lee into the most famous martial arts star and a significant modern day philosopher, reported variety.com.
Production on the Bruce Lee project is by Bruce Lee Entertainment, a company operated by the late star's daughter Shannon Lee along with Los Angeles-based Convergence Entertainment.
The 63-year-old actor, who has worked in over 500 films spanning across languages along with projects both in India and abroad for over three decades, will be honoured for his contribution in the field of cinema.
Kher said he is grateful for the award and considers the recognition as an encouragement to keep working in the industry for another 34 years of his life.
"Thank you IIFA for acknowledging my achievements in Cinema. I am privileged to be a part of our film industry, which has been so generous in the showing of love and warmth upon me.
"My 34 years of work has helped me achieve great milestones and at a time when actors my age are offered the Lifetime Achievement Award, I prefer to ride on another 34 years exploring new and exciting opportunities in Indian and international Cinema. I am humbled and happy to be the recipient of this award instituted by IIFA," the National Award-winning actor said in a statement.
"With every such award comes a sense of responsibility which I promise to be committed to, in our industry and also, as a representative of our country in the international arena," he added.
Kher will be presented with the honour on June 24 at the 19th edition of IIFA.
Anupam was present at the launch of film “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, in which he essays an on screen father to actor Manish Paul, when he spoke about it.
“I'm waiting for the film's shooting to being. I'm excited to work with Manish Paul. I've always seen him as an anchor or as an actor. It would be interesting to work with him," he said.
"Whenever I have played the role of father, the film becomes super hit, this is what I believe," said the veteran actor of his hopes from "Baa Baa Black Sheep", directed by Vishwaas Paandya.
The movie also features Annu Kapoor.
Kher first made a mark in his 1984 debut film "Saaransh" in which he and his on-screen wife, Rohini Hattangadi, struggle to cope with life in the wake of their son's murder.

The Central Railways had also recently shared a message from Bollywood actor Anupam Kher in which he has appealed every one to not put his/her life at stake by trespassing or crossing rail tracks. Anupam further advocated the use of foot over bridges for safety.
Here's a short video shared by the Central Railways:

Anupam on Sunday treated his fans and followers to a Q&A session on Twitter, where a user asked him about the most rewarding part of playing Doctor Kapoor in the show.
"Being part of 'New Amsterdam' broadens my horizons. Both as an actor and as a person. It is also fantastic to represent my country in a show which deals with love, compassion and diversity," Anupam tweeted.
Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in the US, the series follows the brilliant and charming doctor Max Goodwin played by actor Ryan Eggold, the institution's newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care.
Another fan asked as to when he and his actress-politician wife, Kiron Kher, will be seen working on screen together with him.
"Keep calm," he replied.
Asked if he believes in luck, Anupam said he first believes in hardwork.
Anupam, who was born in Shimla, is a Kashmiri Pandit. A user questioned him as to who will make a movie on Kashmiri Hindus -- if he can't ?
He replied: "Sometimes raising a voice is more important than making a film."
Anupam on Monday replied to a user, who was trolling Kangana for using a mechanical horse for a fight sequence in her latest release "Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi".
The 63-year-old replied by calling Kangana a "self-made actress".
"How much venom this man has against a self-made actress Kangana Ranaut! This is called 'acting' idiot. Actors all over the world do that. That is their job. She will be remembered for decades for her hard work in movies. While you got your fifteen minute fame by using her name," Anupam tweeted.
"Manikarnika..." is based on the life journey of warrior queen Rani Laxmibai. The film also stars Ankita Lokhande, Atul Kulkarni, Jisshu Sengupta, Suresh Oberoi and Danny Denzongpa.
Anupam is currently busy with the second season of medical drama series "New Amsterdam".
It is inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in the US. The series follows the brilliant and charming doctor Max Goodwin played by actor Ryan Eggold, the institution's newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care.
On the Bollywood front, Anupam will be seen in a thriller titled "One Day" directed by Ashok Nanda.
Expressing grief over the attack, Amitabh tweeted: "We live in difficult times ... Sad and terrifying. Prayers."

Anupam took to Twitter and shared a photograph with Ranbir. The 36-year-old actor is visiting his father and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who undergoing a treatment here.
"It is always delightful to meet one of India's finest and my most favourite actor and person Ranbir Kapoor. He is affectionate, loving, respectful, compassionate and hugely talented. It was nice walking with him on the streets of New York City and talking about films, life and life's lessons," Anupam captioned the image.
Ranbir and Anupam have shared screen space together in the film "Wake Up Sid".
In September last year, Rishi announced on Twitter that he was flying to the US as he needed medical care for all the years of "wear and tear at the movies".
On the work front, Ranbir is currently busy with his upcoming film "Brahmastra", which also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt.
"This is the moment that matters... Every vote is a voice that counts," tweeted Priyanka along with a selfie showing off her inked finger.
Rekha, Kiran Rao, Sanjay Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, Paresh Rawal, Ravi Kishan, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Kailash Kher, Mahesh Bhatt, Aahana Kumra, Sapna Moti Bhavnani, Pooja Bhatt, Divya Dutta, Zayed Khan, Sonali Bendre Behl, Varun Dhawan, Anupam Kher, Goldie Behl and Twinkle Khanna were some of those who stepped out early and voted.
Urmila, the Congress MP candidate from Mumbai North seat, voted in polling booth number 190 in Bandra.
Veteran actress Rekha showed up early at a polling booth in Bandra.
Actor and politician Ravi Kishan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhhpur seat, voted in Goregaon.
Veteran actor and politician Paresh Rawal, along with his wife Swaroop Sampat, voted at the Jamna Bai School in Vile Parle.
Aamir, dressed casually, cracked a joke as the media approached him for a byte, but made a point about the importance of voting.
Actor Rahul Bose returned to Mumbai from shooting in Hyderabad to vote and then quickly made his way back to the shoot.
Pooja said it was gratifying to see a long line of voters outside a polling station in Bandra.
"Well done Bandra! You make me proud! Big thank you to all the volunteers and to police personnel keeping vigil," she tweeted before going to cast her vote.
Actress Divya Dutta urged: "Vote, not because just your life depends on it. Vote because an entire nation does. One vote can make the difference. Be your change."
Filmmaker Prakash Jha, who has had a tryst with politics, went to vote with his daughter.
"Both, respectfully, for our different preferences! But we voted for the peace, prosperity and pride of our beloved India. And most of all, the dignity of each of our brothers and sisters of this great nation."
Madhuri wrote: "Voting is our right, let's use it wisely! The future of our country is in our hands. Let's do our duty and vote for India."
R. Madhavan, who went to a polling booth with his wife, urged the youth to give "no excuses" for not voting.
Actress Gul Panag wrote: "Go out and vote. Because the future depends on it. And not just our future, but the future of the next generation too. Every vote counts."
This election season, the film fraternity has been visibly divided over support for the competing political parties.
While star candidates like Urmila and Sunny Deol are fighting elections, the BJP used Bollywood's soft power and engaged celebrities like Aamir, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, A.R. Rahman, Ayushmann Khurrana and Alia Bhatt to appeal to citizens to come out and vote.
On its part, the Congress mobilised Twitter to send out a Bollywood celeb-led message to citizens: "Vote karo, magar soch samajh ke" via a video featuring Kalki Koechlin, Varun Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Nandita Das, Swara Bhasker, Vishal Dadlani, Renuka Shahane and many more.
What makes Akshay's box office journey different from other Bollywood superstars is his consistency to hit silver screen with several movies a year and draw in the audience.
According to Shibasish Sarkar of Reliance Entertainment, which will distribute Akshay's upcoming film "Sooryavanshi", it's the actor's "tremendous discipline, his lifestyle and rigour of keeping churning out three-four films a year" that make him a box office 'khiladi'.
"Of course, he has talent, understanding of the market and everything. But this would not have been possible without the discipline he maintains," Sarkar, Reliance Entertainment's Group CEO (Content, Digital and Gaming), told IANS.
For the production, exhibition and distribution sectors, the 51-year-old's films are a win-win all the way, says film and trade expert Girish Johar.
"The audience is willing to come to watch his film even four times a year, and that gives a major boost to ticket sales. Also, the stories that he has been telling aren't routine. There is something new to offer all the time. For every film that he is doing with a social message, there's one madcap comedy or action entertainer.
"He is selecting films wisely and has his economics right. He is balancing all things right," Johar told IANS.
For example, if one Salman Khan film mints Rs 300 crore a year; Akshay, by way of releasing four films that are able to generate over Rs 100 crore apiece gives him total earnings of Rs 400 crore.
"It's just that his earnings get divided," Johar said and added, it's a feat considering how in today's "ruthless times", the audience rejects films with the star power, budget and scale of "Thugs Of Hindostan".
The 'khiladi' tag has stayed with Akshay since his breakthrough role in the 1992 film "Khiladi", after which he became an undisputed action star with projects like "Sabse Bada Khiladi", "Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi", "International Khiladi", "Waqt Hamara Hai" and "Mohra".
In 2000, he tried his comic timing in the hit movie "Hera Pheri". It was followed by movies like "Garam Masala", "Phir Hera Pheri", "Bhagam Bhaag", "Welcome", "Singh Is Kinng" and "Housefull".
After 2010, Akshay's filmography kept getting further diverse. Against a "Rowdy Rathore" and "Housefull 3", the actor offered his fans "OMG - Oh My God!", "Special 26", "Holiday", "Baby", "Airlift", "Rustom" and "Jolly LLB 2".
These films offered more than just entertainment. He continued the streak with films like "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha" and "Pad Man", which have brought about consciousness for health and sanitation like never before.
His last film "Kesari" was his ninth hit in a row after "Gold" (Rs 102.10 crore), "Pad Man" (Rs 78.22 crore), "Toilet - Ek Prem Katha" (Rs 132.07 crore), "Jolly LLB 2" (Rs 117 crore), "Rustom" (Rs 127.49 crore), "Housefull 3" (Rs 109.14 crore), "Airlift" (Rs 128.1 crore) and "Singh Is Bliing" (Rs 89.95 crore).
Akshay is the most "bankable" star in distributor Rajesh Thadani's opinion. "From action to comedy, and now films with a patriotic streak, he keeps the audience curious with what's next and they look forward to what he will come up with. He hasn't kept his career monotonous," Thadani said.
To the actor, currently caught in a row over citizenship, veteran actors Poonam Dhillon and Anupam Kher have come to his defence.
"You have been an inspiration for many in the film industry for giving back to the society. Please continue your good work and don't let negativity deter you in any way. Being a Canadian citizen is not taking away your Indian spirit, soul and love for India," tweeted Poonam.
Anupam urged Akshay not to explain his loyalty towards his country to people. "You are a doer. You don't need to explain to anybody."
The actor had been campaigning for his wife and BJP candidate Kirron Kher, who is seeking re-election from this city.
"Jai ho," Anupam tweeted.
This Lok Sabha seat is witnessing a triangular contest among four-time MP and Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal, Kirron Kher, and former Union Minister Harmohan Dhawan of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Former Railway Minister Bansal lost to Kirron Kher by nearly 70,000 votes in the 2014 elections.
Sharing a black and white photo from their wedding ceremony, Anupam tweeted: "Dearest Kirron! Happy 34th wedding anniversary. Bahut lamba waqt zindagi ka saath mei tay kiya hai humne. 34 saal guzar gaye lekin lagta hai Jaise kal ki he baat hai. I have loved the lived quality of our lives together. @KirronKherBJP."
Kirron also posted a black and white photo of the couple and captioned it: "Looking forward to many more years of togetherness dearest @AnupamPKher. Happy wedding anniversary. Love and god bless always."
Anupam has often shown his support to Kirron's political career on social media. On the film front, the two have also featured together in movies like "Veer-Zaara" and "Rang De Basanti".
Anupam on Monday morning tweeted: "Dearest Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor! Here is wishing you a safe trip back to India after being in New York for almost a year. I have mixed feelings. I am happy and sad at the same time."
He said that he will miss the star couple terribly.
"I am going to miss you terribly. We had a great time together. Thank you. Love and prayers," Anupam added.
There were reports that Rishi is likely to return on September 10.
Rishi was in New York to undergo medical treatment for cancer.
A slew of family, friends, and celebrities from across the world, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Karan Johar, have visited Rishi over the past months.
She assaulted two women employees of a veterinary clinic in Mumbai on January 16, reports indiatoday.in.
According to the portal, Versova police have registered a non-cognisable offence against the actor's daughter.
The entire incident was captured on the CCTV camera present at the veterinary clinic. The footage has been given to the police.
According to reports, Heeba took two cats of her belonging to her friend for sterilisation at the clinic, which is reportedly run by The Feline Foundation.
"On January 16 at 2.50 pm actress Heeba Shah walked into our community veterinary clinic with two cats for sterilisation. Our clinic caretaker asked her to wait for 5 minutes as a surgery was on. After 2-3 minutes of waiting she aggressively said to our staff members, 'Don't you know who I am? How can you make me wait for so long outside without any assistance? How come no one helped me to get my cats' cage out of the rickshaw on arrival?" Mriidu Khosla, a trustee of the foundation, told MidDay.
She added that a senior staff member asked her to leave the premises with her cats, after she began to verbally abuse for no reason.
Khosla said: "She also slapped and assaulted two female staff members. The physical abuse was harsh, extremely violent and disturbing to say the least."
Heeba accepted to have hit the employees but she said that they started the fight.
Talking to the portal, Heeba said: "I did hit them, but they started it. The gatekeeper didn't allow me to enter the clinic and asked several questions. I told him that I had an appointment. In the clinic when I told the attendant about the watchman, she also started abusing me and speaking rudely. Then one of the women there pushed me and told me to get out from the premises immediately.
Heeba added: "This is not the way to speak to anyone who is visiting the clinic. The lady in the clinic started fighting with me. The clinic staff should talk politely to customers visiting their clinic."

The actor took to social media to share the health update. He also revealed that he had tested negative for the virus.

My brother, bhabhi & niece in spite of being careful have also tested mildly positive.I got myself tested as well & I have tested negative. @mybmc is informed," Anupam Kher tweeted along with a short video.

He took to Instagram to explain the symptoms his mother started showing.
"I would like to inform friends, well-wishers and everyone else that I had taken my mother for a check-up yesterday, as she had been experiencing loss of appetite. On doctor's recommendation, we took her for CT Scan to rule out any medical issue. Upon testing, she was found mildly Covid +," he wrote.
Kher continued: "Owing to her age, we have admitted her into Kokilaben Hospital. She is doing fine. Three other members ( my brother, his wife and my niece) have also tested mildly positive.I got myself tested as well and I have tested negative. The family has self-quarantined themselves and we have informed the BMC. I would like to reach out to everyone with aged parents - please get your parents tested even if they show the slightest of symptoms. Despite the extreme amount of carefulness displayed by my brother and his family over the last few months, they still tested positive. So I urge everyone to take this seriously and understand that no amount of safety measures are enough. Friends, don't let your guards down. Let's be vigilant, let's be aware and let's fight the bad times together."
Many celebrities wished the family a speedy recovery.

However, years later it is now considered a classic and loved by the audience. To mark 29 years of Lamhe, Anupam Kher shared a few adorable pictures of himself with the late Sridevi and his best friend Anil Kapoor.
He penned, "Shooting for #Lamhe will always remain one of my most treasured memories!! Especially the medley song with #YashJi @AnilKapoor #WahidaRehman Ji, #SarojKhan Ji & the ultimate #Sridevi. You can watch the medley again & again & again.
https://twitter.com/AnupamPKher/status/1330351991705505795
Medley was one of the most entertaining sequences of Lamhe. Importantly, the exceptional timing and teamwork of Sridevi and Anupam Kher made it unforgettable.

Yash Chopra was known for bringing the beautiful locations of Switzerland and Kashmir alive on the screen. His heroines were stylish, glamorous, and sensuous. And the storyline romantic laced with wonderfully choreographed songs and melodious compositions.
https://twitter.com/FilmHistoryPic/status/1330313262416719875
Lamhe had all these things. The movie was exquisitely shot in mesmerizing locations of Great Britain and the dunes of Jaipur. The Morni baga ma bole aadhi raat ma song particularly depicted the beauty of dunes in Rajasthan and Ramgarh Palace, Jaipur.
https://twitter.com/SrideviKapoor/status/1327944859416608769
As usual, Sridevi looked resplendent as Pallavi and the younger Pooja. For the first time, Anil Kapoor shaved off his mustache to ensure that he looked younger than Sridevi's Pallavi. Lamhe had beautiful songs composed by the legendary duo Shiv-Hari and ultimate choreography by Saroj Khan.
https://twitter.com/kalpesh_ashar/status/1330333898115584001
Lamhe still tanked at the box-office and it is believed that Yash Chopra was very disappointed with its failure.
“Just so that rumors don’t get the better of a situation Sikandar and I would like to inform everyone that Kirron has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment and we are sure she will come out of this stronger than before. We are very blessed that she is being looked after by a phenomenal set of doctors. She’s always been a fighter and takes things head-on,” Anupam wrote.
— Anupam Kher (@AnupamPKher) April 1, 2021
He also asked people to send prayers her way. “She’s all heart and that’s why she has so many people that love her. So keep sending your love to her in your prayers and in your heart. She is well on her way to recovery and we thank everyone for their support and love,” Anupam concluded.
