According to reports, the girl staying at a working women’s hostel at Acharya Vihar in Bhubaneswar displayed extraordinary courage in fighting off a miscreant who attacked and tried to abduct her.
According to sources, the girl who works at a software company was attacked just minutes after she had arrived at her hostel.
The entire act was captured in the CCTV camera which revealed that a motorcycle-borne youth wearing helmet approached her and tried to kidnap her on knife point.
Despite being overpowered by the miscreant, the girl did not give in and countered him. Following resistance, the miscreant pushed her aside and escaped from the spot on his motorcycle.

The girl has lodged a complaint with Sahid Nagar police station in connection with the incident.
“A case has been registered in connection with the incident. Preliminary investigation reveals that it was not a snatching bid as the girl was not wearing or carrying any valuables. We are examining the CCTV footage to ascertain the exact motive,” said DCP Satyabrat Bhoi.
Though the motive behind the attack is yet to be established, the incident which took place during day time and that too in a populated area has raised concerns over safety of women in Bhubaneswar.

From 3 pm to 7 pm, restriction has been imposed on the vehicles on the service lane adjoining fly over bridge on NH-16 from Acharya Vihar to Jaydev Vihar.

Many parts of Acharya Vihar and Jaydev Vihar were flooded with rain water disrupting the normal life of local residents and commuters as vehicles had to travel across waterlogged roads. Motorists and the commuters had a tough time negotiating the knee-deep water as it took hours to evacuate the water from the roads.
Several low-lying areas were seen inundated by rainwater. The water had even entered many of houses and shops in the locality which witnessed water-logging up to two feet.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out at the medicine store at around 6:10 am today.
On being informed about the incident, two fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control, the sources added.
Though the exact reason behind the outbreak of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electrical short circuit is suspected to be the main reason behind the accident.
Meanwhile, it has been alleged that some unidentified miscreants have set the shop on fire after their theft attempt failed.
They have also cut the shutters of three more shops in the locality, the locals alleged.
When contacted Bhubaneswar DCP Satya Brata Bhoi he said, "The investigation is on. The truth will come to fore after completion of the investigation."
The Commissionerate Traffic Police last night marked a section of NH in the area as a new bus bay to facilitate local, long-route and interstate buses to board or deboard passengers.
"With the new bus bay operating, the two bus stops at Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar would now be bypassed. The buses would climb the flyover near Crown Hotel and stop at Satsang Vihar bypassing the entire city traffic in the midway," said Amaresh Panda, Traffic ACP, Bhubaneswar.
Traffic police is optimistic that the new bus bay will help ease vehicular movement in the busy traffic junctions like Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar which generally get congested due to movement of heavy vehicles, mainly passenger buses.
However, bus owners association has demanded the administration to put up a permanent facility for the welfare of passengers.
Secretary of Private Bus Owner’s Association, Barada Prasanna Acharya said, “Though we don’t like this move by the Traffic Department, we are forced to support considering the traffic problems at Vani Vihar.”
