Odisha witnessed a moment of immense pride as four of its own returned home carrying the weight of a historic victory. Phula Soren, Basanti Hansda, Jamuna Rani Tudu and Parbati Marndi, all part of India’s visually impaired women’s cricket team, arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport today after winning the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup for the visually impaired, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
As the players stepped out of the terminal, they were greeted with cheers, garlands and applause. Sports officials, family members and well-wishers gathered in numbers to honour their achievement. The felicitation ceremony at the airport reflected the state’s collective pride and the growing visibility of inclusive sports.
India Clinches Maiden Title by Defeating Nepal
The inaugural edition of the visually impaired Women’s T20 World Cup saw India deliver a commanding performance. In a gripping final, the Indian team defeated Nepal to lift the prestigious trophy. Their victory has been celebrated nationwide, marking a significant milestone for differently-abled women in competitive sports.
Following the team’s return to India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally met the squad members and felicitated them, acknowledging their extraordinary determination and contribution to the nation.
