This Indian cricketer gets Rs 5 Crore ransom threat from 'D-Company' gang; two held

Team India’s rising star, Rinku Singh, who recently helped India clinch the Asia Cup, has allegedly received a Rs 5 crore ransom threat from the infamous Dawood Ibrahim-led D-Company. According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, Rinku’s promotional team was contacted three times between February and April 2025 with extortion demands.

Two Suspects Arrested in Connection

In a major breakthrough, police have arrested Mohammed Dilshad and Mohammed Naveed, two individuals suspected of being linked to the extortion plot. Both were apprehended in the West Indies and handed over to Indian authorities on August 1. Investigators revealed that the duo had earlier attempted to extort Rs 10 crore from Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of the late former MLA Baba Siddiqui. During questioning, one of the accused reportedly confessed to contacting Rinku’s team for ransom.

Cricketer’s Security Tightened

Authorities have heightened Rinku’s security following the threats. The 26-year-old batsman from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has risen from humble beginnings to become one of India’s most dependable finishers.

Rinku’s Remarkable Rise

Rinku has represented India in 54 T20Is, scoring 550 runs with an impressive strike rate of 161.77 and an average of 42.31. In the IPL, he has played 58 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders, amassing 1,099 runs, and was part of KKR’s 2024 championship-winning squad.

Rinku’s recent heroics in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, where his boundary sealed India’s victory, have made him a national favourite now facing an unwanted challenge off the field.
