In the first episode of the new season of Breakfast with Champions with Gaurav Kapur, Abhishek revealed how Yuvraj’s faith and words reignited his purpose and self-belief.

The Struggles Before the Rise

Abhishek admitted that there was a time he wasn’t performing consistently, even struggling to find a place in the playing XI. Watching his peers like Shubman Gill move ahead into the Indian setup left him questioning his own journey. “I used to feel I was delayed, that others had moved ahead. It was tough,” he recalled.

A Lunch That Changed Everything

Recounting a memorable afternoon with Yuvraj Singh and Shubman Gill, Abhishek said Yuvi gave him advice that shifted his perspective entirely. “Paji told me, ‘I’m not preparing you for state cricket or IPL. I’m preparing you to play for India to win matches for the country. Write this down.’ He said I’d be in the Indian team in two to three years.”

Those words lit a spark. “If someone I idolise believes in me, I have no reason to doubt myself,” Abhishek said. From that day, he stopped chasing short-term goals and began focusing on representing India.
