One of the major concerns for India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 final is the perceived “jinx” associated with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, a ground that has previously delivered painful moments for the team and its supporters. The most notable heartbreak came during the 2023 ODI World Cup final, when India entered the title clash unbeaten but lost to Australia by six wickets on November 19 - a defeat that still lingers in the memory of fans.
The venue again proved difficult for India during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. In their Super Eight fixture on February 22, the Men in Blue were handed a heavy 76-run defeat by South Africa at the same stadium, reviving discussions about the team’s struggles there.
Despite these setbacks, India’s overall record at the Narendra Modi Stadium in T20 internationals remains fairly strong. Out of the 10 matches they have played at the venue, India have won seven while losing three.
The team has also produced some impressive batting performances at the stadium. Their highest T20I total at the ground stands at 234/4, which came against New Zealand during the third T20I of the Black Caps’ tour of India in 2023.
India’s journey in this year’s tournament has largely been impressive. They began their campaign with a 29-run victory over the United States at the Wankhede Stadium on February 7. The team then continued its strong form with a commanding 93-run win against Namibia in Delhi on February 12.

The tournament next took them to Colombo, where India delivered a convincing 61-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan. They then wrapped up the group stage with a narrow 17-run victory against the Netherlands at the Narendra Modi Stadium on February 18.
With four wins from four matches, India finished at the top of Group A with eight points and a strong net run rate of +2.500. Their momentum briefly stalled in the Super Eight stage with the defeat against South Africa, but the team quickly bounced back, registering successive victories against Zimbabwe and West Indies to secure a place in the semi-finals.
