New Delhi: Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Monday felicitated the national team on winning T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind earlier this month here.

Indian won the World Cup after defeating Pakistan in the final at Bengaluru on February 12.

Speaking on the occasion, Goel said after success of para athletes at Rio Paralympics, Indian team for blind cricket has added another chapter of glory in history of Indian sports by retaining T20 World Cup.

He said government is committed for the promotion of sports in the country. He said his Ministry will consider granting recognition to Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) as the sport federation.

Goel also said that there is no misunderstanding in the prize money given to the winning team of 2017 World Cup Cricket for the Blind and the Ministry will follow the same practice for cash prize which was adopted in 2012 when the team won the 1st T20 World Cup for Blind cricket.

Goel has already approved an assistance of Rs 30 lakh to the CABI.
