Alara village in Gajapati district, Odisha, has been plunged into deep mourning following the tragic death of two of its residents in a devastating stone quarry blast in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. The victims, Bhaskar Bishoyi and Tukuna Dalai, had migrated to Ballikurava in Bapatla district in search of livelihood, working in a granite quarry to support their families back home.
The fatal blast occurred during a routine stone blasting operation, claiming the lives of at least six labourers — four from Digapahandi and two from Mohana, including Bhaskar and Tukuna. The explosion buried the workers under massive debris, leaving the remote village of Alara in shock and despair.
With wails of grief echoing through the narrow lanes, the news of the tragedy has cast a shadow over the entire community. Friends and neighbours gathered at the homes of the deceased, offering support to their grieving families, who are struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.

For Alara village, the tragedy is a grim reminder of the risks faced by migrant workers seeking survival beyond state borders.
