Sambalpur: Riding an unbeaten century by Biplab Samantray, Odisha scored a robust 295 for three in first innings of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match with Uttar Pradesh at the Veer Surendra Sai Stadium here today.

Electing to bat after winning toss, Odisha displayed a steady batting show with Samantray dominating the field with his hard-hitting 110 not out facing 186 deliveries. Samantray`s 227 minutes` stay in the middle was explosive with 15 hits to the fence and two over it. Captain Natraj Behera and Niranjan Behera also scored 53 and 54 runs respectively.

While Natraj`s 53 included 12 boundaries off 89 balls before he was caught by M A Khan off Praveen Gupta, Niranjan`s 54 saw six hits to the fence. He was bowled by Arish N Alam. Opener Sumitosh Praharaj scored 26 runs with six fours before being caught by Prashant Gupta off Bhuvnesh Kumar.

Samantray and Abhilash Mallick (38) were at the crease at the close of opening day`s play. For Uttar Pradesh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Praveeh Gupta and Anish A Alam claimed one wicket apiece.
