Out of favour cricketer Prithvi Shaw sent a strong reminder to the national selectors with a blistering 181-run knock for Maharashtra against his former team, Mumbai, in a three-day practice match at the MCA Stadium in Pune ahead of the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season. Shaw’s explosive innings came off just 140 balls and included a massive 305-run opening partnership with Arshin Kulkarni.

However, the match took an ugly turn following Shaw’s dismissal. The 25-year-old was caught at deep fine leg while attempting a slog sweep off a fuller delivery from Musheer Khan — the younger brother of India cricketer Sarfaraz Khan. As Shaw walked off, Musheer reportedly gave him a fiery send-off, which enraged the Maharashtra batter.

In viral footage circulating on social media, Shaw was seen furiously swinging his bat toward Musheer in retaliation, prompting the on-field umpire to rush in and separate the two players. Several Mumbai teammates quickly stepped in to shield Musheer as tempers flared.

On his way back to the pavilion, Shaw was also seen exchanging heated words with Mumbai’s Siddhesh Lad before leaving the field.

Earlier in the innings, Shaw had shown patience early on against a Shardul Thakur-led attack, while his partner Kulkarni took an aggressive approach, racing to a century in just 95 balls. Shaw reached his half-century off 84 deliveries and appeared in fine touch throughout, continuing his form from the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament.

Kulkarni eventually fell for a quick-fire 186 off 139 balls, bringing an end to their mammoth opening stand.

Shaw, who moved to Maharashtra earlier this year after obtaining a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association, has made an impressive start with his new team, having scored 111, 1, and 66 in the Buchi Babu Invitational prior to this match.
