Paul Breitner to encourage Indian talents

Mumbai: Germnan football legend Paul Breitner is expected to visit India this month to encourage young football talents in the country.

A member of the 1974 World Cup winning team, Breitner will be here in the western Indian city to scout for under-16 players for FC Bayern Youth Cup, to be held at the Allianz Arena in Munich in May 2012, sports sources here said.

The former midfield marshal is to be a member of the scouting team at the Western Railway Sports Association ground here on December 10 and 11.

The first leg of the scouting programme, an initiative led by Adidas, Audi and FC Bayern Mnchen, was held in New Delhi, and saw 15 boys chosen from amongst 800.

Breitner, also FB Bayers brand ambassador, expressed optimism that Indians too can make it to the European leagues where players from all over the globe are seen in action. "Players from all over the world are in Europe nowadays, so why wouldn`t we see Indians in the next 5 or 6 years?" he said.
