A road mishap late on Wednesday night claimed two lives after a bullet motorcycle crashed into a streetlight pole on Fire Station Road near Rental Colony in Bhubaneswar.

According to eyewitnesses, the speeding two-wheeler lost control and rammed into the pole with great force. The motorcycle then skidded several meters further, colliding with a roadside tree before crashing into a parked car.

The intensity of the crash left the bike mangled and debris scattered across the road. The impact of the collision was so intense that the biker and the pillion rider died on the spot, sources added.

Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing a loud sound but found both victims lying unconscious. On being informed, police and emergency services soon arrived and shifted the bodies for post-mortem.

Initial investigation indicates overspeeding as the likely cause of the mishap, though police have begun further inquiries to ascertain other possibilities.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained. The accident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving on city roads, especially during late hours.
