Itanagar: A new national record was created on Thursday in Snatch event under 62 kg category (boy) in the ongoing seventh Youth National Weightlifting Championships at Nirjuli near here.

Achyutananda Sahoo of Odisha created a new national record by lifting 102 kg in the snatch event breaking the earlier record set during the day by Arunachalee weightlifter Hitlar Sorom Tagru, who lifted 101 kg.

Arunachal Pradesh clinched three gold medals, eight silver and a bronze till Thursday. In Youth (Boy) 69 kg category, Kojum Taba from Arunachal clinched three gold medals by lifting 103 kg in Snatch, 130 kg in Clean & Jerk and 233 kg in total.

Another Arunachalee lifter, Sambo Lapang won two silver medals and a bronze in the same weight category by lifting 100 kg in Snatch, 125 kg in Clean & Jerk and 225 kg (Bronze) in total.

In 62 kg category Hitlar Sorom Tagru from Arunachal Pradesh won three medals by lifting 101 kg (Silver) in Snatch, 127 kg (Silver) in Clean & Jerk and 228 kg (Silver) in Total.

Saurav Gogoi from Assam also won two silver and a bronze in the same weight category by lifting 130 kg in Clean & Jerk and 230 kg in total besides 100 kg (Bronze) in Snatch.

In 56 kg Youth (Boys) Aruna Santa from Odisha bagged 3 medals by lifting 90 kg (Silver) in Snatch, 115 kg (Silver) in Clean & Jerk and 205 kg (Gold) in total.

T B C Lalchhanhima (Mizoram) also won three medals in the same category by lifting 89 kg (Bronze) in Snatch, 115 kg (Gold) in Clean & Jerk and 204 kg (Silver) in Total.

While Mayur Joshi of Madhya Pradesh also won three medals in the category by lifting 93 kg (Gold) in Snatch, 102 kg (Bronze) in Clean & Jerk and 203 kg (Bronze) in Total. MORE PTI UPL AMD AMD

In 62 kg Youth (Boys) category Achyutananda Sahoo of Odisha clinched three medals by lifting 102 kg (Gold) in Snatch, 128 kg (Gold) in Clean & Jerk and 230 kg (Gold) in total.

K Krishna Prasad (Andhra Pradesh) won two medals in the same category by lifting 126 kg (Bronze) in Clean & Jerk and 220 kg (Bronze) in total, while Ravi Teja (Goa) won a Bronze medal by lifting 96 kg in Snatch.

In the girls competition (53 Kg) Kh Bidyabati Chanu (Manipur) won three medals by lifting 62 kg (Gold) in Snatch, 77 kg (Gold) in Clean & Jerk and 139 kg (Gold) in total.

Another Manipuri lifter Y Khundonbi Chanu (Manipur) also clinched three medals by lifting 58 kg (Bronze) in Snatch, 73 kg (Silver) in Clean & Jerk and 131 kg (Silver) in total.

E Deexita of Andhra Pradesh also bagged three medals in the category by lifting 59 kg (Silver) in Snatch, 68 kg (Bronze) in Clean & Jerk and 127 kg (Bronze) in total.

Jimjang Dero from Arunachal yesterday won three silver one each in snatch, clean & jerk and total lift in boy (50 kg) weight category. He lifted a total of 168 kg (73+95). Deru is a student of Army Sports Institute, Pune.

Kipa Chaku also won a bronze in clean & jerk in the same weight category yesterday. He lifted a total of 159 kg (68 kg in snatch, 91 kg in clean and jerk). Chaku is a class student of SAI, Naharalgun.

The gold medal in this category went to Trinad Sabhagi of Andhra Pradesh. He won two golds, a bronze with a total lift of 169 kg (73 kg+96 kg).

Ajit Singh of Manipur won a gold and a bronze by lifting 74 kg in Snatch and 164 kg in total.

On the end of day two, Manipur is leading the medal tally with 5 gold, two silver and a bronze followed by West Bengal in the second spot with 5 gold and one bronze.

Host state Arunachal is in the third spot with three gold, eight silver and a bronze.
