In the wake of a 25-year-old EY employee’s tragic death due to overwork in Pune, an additional deputy vice-president of HDFC Bank reportedly collapsed at her workplace. The deceased has been identified as Sadaf Fatima, an additional deputy vice-president at HDFC Bank’s Vibuti Khand branch in Lucknow.

The 45-year-old fell off her chair and died instantly, reports said.

Dainik Bhaskar reported that Sadaf was under immense work pressure. Fatima had reportedly visited the cafeteria on the second floor of her office building when she fainted. Despite immediate attempts by her colleagues to assist her, she was declared dead at a nearby hospital.

Her colleagues noted that she had taken a tablet from her purse shortly before her death, the Economic Times reported. Sadaf’s death has left the entire nation in shock once again as the incident comes amid a nationwide debate over workplace pressure after an EY worker’s death due to ‘overwork’.

Anna Sebastian, who worked at EY’s Pune office for around four months, was found dead a few days back. Her mother Anita Augustine in a letter to EY India Chairman flagged the ‘glorification’ of overwork at the consulting firm and stated that her daughter was overwhelmed by the excessive workload.

The shocking incident has elicited strong reactions from many political leaders who expressed concern about the growing stress in the workforce across both public and private sectors.

The deaths of Sadaf and Anna serve as tragic reminders of the urgent need to address workplace stress and emphasise the well-being of the employees. The incidents spark discussions on the importance of creating healthier working conditions.
