National Youth Fest in Mangalore from Jan 12-16

Bangalore: Karnataka will host the 17th National Youth Festival in Mangalore from January 12-16, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda announced here on Friday.

Gowda launched the emblem and a website created for the event at a function held in his home office "Krishna" in the presence of Union Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily.

He said about Rs 12 crore would be spent on the festival to be attended by 5,000 participants across the country. The festival will witness a plethora of cultural events and competitive events depicting the culture and heritage of the nation.

Moily said the state would provide Rs 10 crore and the Centre Rs two crore for the mega event. Karnataka has requested President Pratibha Patil to declare open the festival and was awaiting confirmation, official sources said.
