In line with her earlier statements on promoting Odisha as a spiritual tourism destination, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida recently unveiled plans for a ‘Shakti Corridor’ to link the state’s revered Shakti Peeths.
As per the announced initiative, this spiritual circuit aims to enhance pilgrimage experiences, improve infrastructure, and position the state as a hub for divine tourism.
Key Temples in the Corridor
The corridor will connect seven major shrines dedicated to Goddess Shakti, including Maa Tara Tarini (Ganjam), Maa Biraja (Jajpur), Maa Ugratara (Khordha), Maa Bhagabati (Banapur), Maa Mangala (Kakatpur), Maa Kalijai (Chilika Lake), and Maa Bhairavi.
Scattered across multiple districts, the corridor aims to link all of them to form a unified pilgrimage network for devotees.

Helicopter Services & Infrastructure Upgrades
To improve accessibility, the government plans helicopter services for remote shrines like Maa Tara Tarini and Maa Kalijai. Additionally, road connectivity, signage, and visitor amenities will also be upgraded.
Notably, a dedicated Rs 60 crore has been allocated for temple infrastructure in the Ganjam district, with Rs 8 crore earmarked for Maa Tara Tarini and Rs 11 crore for developing Taptapani’s hot springs.
Two-Year Deadline for Project Completion
The state aims to operationalise the corridor within two years, with focused efforts on land acquisition and approvals. The initiative includes creating meditation zones, ritual spaces, and cultural hubs around temples to enrich the pilgrim experience.
Beyond Spiritual Tourism: Broader Development
While the Shakti Corridor is central, Odisha is also boosting tourism in areas like Deomali, Dhauli, Chilika Lake, and Similipal through integrated master plans. These sites will feature modern amenities, eco-friendly lodges, and adventure tourism offerings to attract diverse travelers.

Economic and Cultural Impact
The corridor is expected to spur job creation in hospitality, transport, and local handicrafts, particularly in rural regions near the shrines. It also aims to preserve Odisha’s cultural identity as a center of Shakti worship while drawing national attention to lesser-known heritage sites.
