Hyderabad/Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the recent ball tampering row and the ban on David Warner to participate in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League, Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed its new skipper for season 11 of IPL.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson will be leading the Hyderabad side in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league which is scheduled to begin from April 7.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Rajasthan Royals on April 9 in their first game at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
"I've accepted the role to stand in as captain for this season," Williamson was quoted as saying by SRH on Twitter. "It's an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to the challenges ahead."
Australia vice-captain Warner and skipper Steve Smith, were handed one-year bans by Cricket Australia for being part of the "leadership group" complicit in Cameron Bancroft's ball-tampering act which was caught on camera during third Test against South Africa in Newlands, Cape Town.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals named Ajinkya Rahane as their skipper for the upcoming season after Aussie captain Steve Smith stepped down.
