Youth arrested for killing kingfisher and making video viral

A youth from Pataparia village under Rajkanika block in Kendrapara district was arrested for killing a kingfisher and making the video of the incident viral.

The arrested youth has been identified as Guru Dalai.

As per reports, Guru works at a prawn gheri in the area. When he was on duty, a kingfisher gobbled up a prawn. Subsequently, Guru caught the bird and brutally killed it. He also posted the video of the incident on Instagram.

The video went viral following which Kendrapara Forest Department swung into action. Rajkanika Forest Ranger Manas Dash arrested Guru in connection with the incident.

“The youth was found harassing the kingfisher in the Instagram video. After watching the video, our officials have arrested him. It’s a crime to harass any bird or animal and post the video on social media as per the Wildlife Protection Act,” said Rajkanika Forest Ranger Manas Dash.

“I request one and all not to harass any bird and animal and post any video on it over social media platforms,” said Dash.
