India’s emphatic triumph in the T20 World Cup 2026 brought joy, pride, and a fair share of memorable moments for fans across the country. But while the Men in Blue celebrated their historic victory on the field, spinner Varun Chakaravarthy stole attention from it with a humorous social media post that quickly went viral.
India Clinch Historic Third T20 World Cup
In the final held in Ahmedabad on Sunday, India delivered a dominant performance against New Zealand. Batting first, the hosts piled up a massive total of 255/5 in 20 overs, powered by impressive half-centuries from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan.
Chasing the daunting target, New Zealand struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack and were eventually bowled out for 159 runs. The comprehensive win not only helped India defend their T20 World Cup crown but also made them the first team to lift the trophy three times.
Chakaravarthy’s ‘Tea With Trophy’ Moment
Soon after the victory, Varun Chakaravarthy added a humorous twist to the celebrations. The spinner shared a picture on Instagram where he was seen holding the T20 World Cup trophy while sipping tea from a cup, recreating a joke that fans instantly recognised.
The playful post quickly grabbed attention online, with fans enjoying the witty reference.
A Throwback To His Asia Cup Joke
Interestingly, Chakaravarthy had made a similar post during the Asia Cup 2025. After India defeated Pakistan in that tournament, Indian players had refused to accept the trophy from PCB Chief and Asia Cup Council Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, returning home without the silverware.
The following day, Chakaravarthy shared a picture of himself lying on his bed with a teacup beside him, jokingly replacing the missing trophy.
The Story Behind The Viral Photo
Later, the spinner explained that he had actually planned to take a celebratory photo with the trophy beside him. However, when the trophy was unavailable, he improvised with a mug.
“I knew we were going to win… but after the match, there was nothing next to me, only a coffee cup,” he had joked.
A Mixed Yet Memorable Tournament
In the T20 World Cup 2026, Chakaravarthy enjoyed a mixed campaign. While he finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets, he also conceded 287 runs in 31 overs.
Despite the ups and downs, his witty celebration ensured that fans had yet another moment to smile about after India’s historic triumph.
