Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, is set to arrive in Odisha on April 17 for an important one-day visit packed with key events, project reviews, and major infrastructure announcements. His visit holds significance for Odisha’s development, particularly in the area of road connectivity and national highway expansion.

As per official sources, Gadkari will begin his tour by attending the Harekrushna Mahatab Jayanti Utsav at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack. The event commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, a towering figure in Odisha’s political and literary history, and former Chief Minister of the state.
Gadkari's presence at this cultural and historical event is seen as a mark of respect to Mahatab's legacy and his contributions to nation-building.
NHAI And Odisha Projects
Following this, the Union Minister will conduct a comprehensive review of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects currently underway in Odisha. With several highway development initiatives in progress, the review meeting is expected to focus on timelines, budget utilization, bottlenecks, and strategies to expedite the pace of construction.
Later in the day, Shri Gadkari will address the public where he is expected to make major announcements regarding new highway projects and road infrastructure initiatives for the state.
According to preliminary reports, the Union Minister will unveil plans aimed at improving connectivity in both rural and urban regions, with a special focus on reducing travel time and boosting economic development.
The highlight of his visit will be the inauguration and foundation stone laying of 16 key highway projects, collectively worth over Rs 5,000 crore. These projects are aimed at enhancing the state’s road network, promoting smoother logistics, and attracting investment by improving transport infrastructure.
“Union Minister will attend an event in Cuttack and later review the NHAI and Odisha road projects. At a public platform, he is scheduled to lay the foundation and inaugurate projects worth nearly Rs 4,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore,”informed Odisha Law Minister, Prithviraj Harichandan.
Harichandan further said that Nitin Gadkari is also likely to make a major announcement on road sector in Odisha which will be known soon.
“Odisha government has drawn a mega infrastructure plan and it will be speeded up with assistance from the Centre as now there is a double-engine government in the state,” he added.
