At least two people were killed after being struck by the Puri-Howrah Express near the Bahanaga-Dandaharipur railway gate in Balasore. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed. GRP Police have started an investigation into the incident.

At least two persons were killed after being hit by Puri-Howrah Express near the Bahanaga-Dandaharipur railway gate in Balasore. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

As per sources, the deceased duo was standing on the railway tracks when the train hit them.

Meanwhile, GRP Police has begun a probe in connection with the mishap.

The deceased have been identified as Hemant Sahu from Baripada and Rakesh Padhy from Aruhabada village.

“Both of them spoke to me for a long time last night. We don’t know why they came here and what led to the tragic incident,” said Prashant Majhi, a relative of the deceased.

“I had closed the gate. Both of them came on a bike and the pillion rider suddenly came in front of the train. The other person immediately ran to rescue him. However, both of them were badly hit by the train. I don’t know who took their bike,” said railway gatekeeper Niranjan Behera.

“We asked the gatekeeper about the incident. As per his information, both the persons were hit badly as they suddenly came in front of the train. I guess the family members of the deceased might have taken the bike. As per the primary investigation, it might be a suicide case. The exact truth behind the incident could be divulged after the post-mortem and further investigation,” said GRP Debendra Kumar Mishra.
