A digital content creator and model, Soni Singh, has come forward with serious allegations of sexual harassment that occurred while she was waiting for a cab in Gurugram last Friday around 11 am. The incident, which she captured on her phone, has since sparked outrage across social media platforms.

According to Ms Singh, the ordeal began shortly after she was dropped off at Rajiv Chowk, having returned from a trip to Jaipur. As she stood waiting for her ride home, she noticed a man loitering nearby.

“He was walking in circles, constantly staring at me,” she recalled in a video she later shared online. “At first, I tried to ignore it, but then I realized his pants were unzipped. He began masturbating while looking directly at me.”

Feeling distressed and unsafe, Ms Singh attempted to contact her cab driver but received no response. She quickly booked another ride to leave the scene and later recounted the harrowing experience on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), also posting photos of the accused.

“I felt disgusted, helpless, and terrified. Why are public spaces still unsafe for women — even in broad daylight?” she questioned in her post, demanding stricter action against such offenders.

Ms Singh further stated that despite calling the police and the women’s helpline, she initially received no assistance. When she did eventually get through, she was allegedly told to visit the police station herself to file a report.

Social Media Uproar Leads to FIR

Two days after the incident, Ms Singh publicly detailed the experience in a video appeal asking for help in identifying the accused. She also criticized ride-hailing services, saying the driver’s lack of response only added to her fear and vulnerability.

The video drew significant public attention, and by August 6, Gurugram Police acknowledged the case. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed, and police spokesperson Sandeep confirmed that authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage to locate the suspect.

Soni Singh, who regularly creates content around beauty, fashion, and skincare, has a following of nearly 40,000 on Instagram. Her case has reignited calls for better safety measures for women in public spaces and more responsive law enforcement protocols.
