Young India batter Sai Sudharsan continues to face scrutiny after another low score in the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The 22-year-old managed just 7 runs off 19 balls, looking tentative before being trapped lbw by Roston Chase.
His uncertain footwork and inability to rotate strike highlighted a growing struggle to adapt at the crucial No. 3 position.
Parthiv Patel’s Honest Assessment
Speaking on Star Sports, former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel analysed Sudharsan’s dismissive innings, suggesting the youngster is battling pressure to prove his place.
“Sai Sudharsan looked a bit tentative today. He usually uses his feet well against spinners, but he seemed under pressure to score big and secure that No.3 slot. He just needs to stay calm,” Patel said.
Patel emphasized that Sudharsan’s natural game marked by positive intent and sharp strike rotation must not be overshadowed by the weight of expectations.

A Stuttering Beginning
Sudharsan’s Test career so far has been underwhelming, with 147 runs from seven innings at an average of 21, including just one half-century. After debuting with a duck in England, he followed up with a promising 61 in Manchester but has since struggled for consistency.
India in Command Despite Early Wicket
Despite Sudharsan’s early dismissal, India finished Day 1 in control at 121/2, trailing by 41 runs. KL Rahul anchored the innings with a composed 53* alongside Shubman Gill (18)* after Siraj (4/40) and Bumrah (3/42) skittled West Indies for 162.
A Test of Temperament
For Sudharsan, the road ahead is as much about composure as technique. Staying calm could be key to turning promise into permanence.
