Dronacharya, Dhyan Chand, Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar awards announced

New Delhi: Shri Naval Singh from Athletics-Para-sports, Shri Anoop Singh, from Wrestling, Shri Harbans Singh from Athletics, Shri Swatantar Raj Singh from Boxing and Shri Nihar Ameen from Swimming are chosen for Dronacharya Awards for this year.

The Dronacharya Award, instituted in 1985, is given to honour eminent Coaches who have successfully trained sportspersons or teams and enabled them to achieve outstanding results in international competitions.

Mr. Romeo James from Hockey, Mr. Shiv Prakash Mishra from Tennis and Mr. T.P.P. Nair from Volleyball are shortlisted to receive the prestigious Dhyan Chand Award for 2015, a release from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, government of India stated.

Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievements in Sports and Games, instituted in the year 2002, is given to honour those sportspersons who have contributed to sports by their performance and continue to contribute to the promotion of sports even after their retirement from active sporting career.

And, for Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar, which was introduced in 2009, would be given in four categories such as Identification and nurturing of budding/young talent, Encouragement to sports through Corporate Social Responsibility, Employment of sports persons and sports welfare measures and Sports for Development.

The government has chosen the Directorate General of Military Training, Coal India Limited, Haryana Police and Sports Coaching Foundation, Hyderabad in the above four categories for this year.

The awardees will receive their awards from the President of India at a specially organized function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on August 29, 2015.
Dronacharya Awardees and Dhyan Chand Awardees will receive statuettes, certificates and award money of Rs.5 lakh each, whereas Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar awardees will only receive certificates and trophies from the President.
