Indian domestic cricket may have found its next fast-bowling sensation in Auqib Nabi. The Jammu and Kashmir quick delivered a fiery opening spell at the KSCA Hubli Cricket Ground, dismantling Karnataka’s top order and sparking conversations about his readiness for the highest level. Dismantling the Big Names

Nabi’s spell was both skilful and ruthless. He drew first blood by dismissing KL Rahul with a sharp, back-of-a-length delivery that straightened after pitching, forcing an edge to close-in fielder Kanhaiya Wadhawan. Two overs later, he produced a dream delivery to clean up Karun Nair for a duck. On the very next ball, Smaran Ravichandran edged another late-moving delivery to Wadhawan, handing Nabi two wickets in successive deliveries. His ability to extract movement off the surface and through the air left seasoned batters searching for answers.

A Season to Remember

The 29-year-old has been in extraordinary form. In 17 innings this season, during Jammu and Kashmir’s fairytale run to their maiden Ranji Trophy final, Nabi has picked up 58 wickets at a remarkable average of 12.46, including six five-wicket hauls. He currently stands as the second-highest wicket-taker and is just two scalps away from overtaking Mayank Mishra’s tally of 59.

India Call-Up on the Horizon?

With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj leading India’s pace attack in recent years, and with uncertainty around other fast bowlers, opportunities may arise. As India prepare for a two-Test tour of New Zealand in October, Nabi’s skill set could suit challenging overseas conditions. A stint with India A may be the next step, but if his form continues, Auqib Nabi’s push for a Test cap may soon become impossible to ignore.
