The controversy surrounding the 2025 Asia Cup is far from over. Despite India’s victory over Pakistan in the final, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi continues to stir tensions regarding the tournament’s trophy handover.
According to reports, the Asia Cup trophy currently remains at the ACC headquarters under Naqvi’s directive, with orders that it should not be moved or handed over without his approval. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed strong disapproval of Naqvi’s actions and intends to raise the issue with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Sources suggest that the BCCI plans to seek disciplinary action against Naqvi, including his possible removal as an ICC Director. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has already criticized Naqvi, stating that the Asia Cup trophy is not his personal property and should be immediately sent to India, the rightful winners and official hosts of the event.
“It remains to be seen what long-term impact this incident will have on the PCB or Naqvi. The BCCI is firm in its stance that Naqvi had no authority to withhold the trophy or insist on personally presenting it to the Indian team," a source said.

The situation escalated after India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, refused to accept the trophy directly from Naqvi following their win. The post-match ceremony was delayed for nearly an hour before being abruptly called off as neither side relented.
This edition of the Asia Cup, which featured eight teams, was marked by heightened tensions between India and Pakistan—meeting on the cricket field for the first time since the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The political and diplomatic undercurrents overshadowed much of the cricketing action throughout the tournament.
