Tension prevailed in Jharsuguda on Sunday morning after unidentified miscreants opened fire at a house in the Railway Colony area, triggering panic among residents.
Police sources said the assailants opened fire on the residence of local resident Dasharath Suna, discharging at least four rounds around dawn. The bullets struck the main door, triggering panic in the locality. Fortunately, the family members inside escaped unhurt, and no casualties were reported.
The exact motive behind the firing is yet to be established. Eyewitnesses claimed they heard multiple gunshots before the attackers fled the spot under the cover of darkness. Local residents expressed shock over the daring incident, pointing out that such attacks are rare in the area.
Upon receiving information, Jharsuguda police rushed to the scene. Superintendent of Police (SP) personally inspected the site, and a forensic team recovered four empty cartridges from the premises. Officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched to identify and nab the culprits.
“I had an altercation with a couple of men last night. They again came in the wee hours today and opened fire at my house. They have fired six rounds,” alleged Sushant Suna, the complainant.

“Though there is no past enmity, it is suspected that it could be a fallout of an altercation during a procession. No one was injured in the attack. The altercation broke out at around 10.30 pm and the firing took place at around 2.30 am,” said Ramesh Chandra Das, DSP, Jharsuguda Railway Police.
