Arunachal to host National Weightlifting Championship
The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) joint secretary and AWA president Abraham K Techi today said preparations were going on full swing for event and informed that the weightlifting sets are being procured from Osaka, Japan while the trophies, medals and mementos from Taiwan to make the championship the best.
While all states and union territories besides the Railways are expected to take part in the event, coaches from the services are expected to arrive here by November 15.
"The state would be lucky to witness a host of international medalists, like Karnam Malleswari, the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in the sport in 2000, another former top weightlifter Kunjarani Devi besides a host of Arjuna awardees during the championship," Techi disclosed. The state will host the event for the first time.
