New Delhi: With the arrest of two persons, Delhi Police today claimed to have smashed a gang involved in betting during Champions League T-20 cricket matches. Pankaj Vij (38) and Ved Parkash (43) were apprehended from New Moti Nagar on Wednesday while they were allegedly involved in betting during a match between Warriors and Somerset, V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said.

They had allegedly organised betting to the tune of Rs five lakh. A laptop, setup box, six mobiles, calculator and TV were recovered. During interrogation, Renganathan said Vij was previously running an STD and computer typing shop but wanted to earn a quick buck. Parkash, who is a school dropout, owned 200 rikshaws but due to losses in business, he allegedly got involved in betting. "They were into betting for the last two years," Renganathan said.
