Erode: Work on wildlife census began today in the Sathyamangalam forest in the disrict, forest officials said.

District Forest Officer, Sathyamangalam, N Sathish said the census is being conducted with participation of volunteers of a NGO ?OSAI? of Coimbatore, students of Bannariamman Institute of Technology, another NGO, SEWA of Erode and wildlife enthusiasts.

Census would be conducted for three days till Sunday. Modern equipment including Laser Rangefinders are being used for enumeration of wild animals.

For wildlife census, linetransect direct count, carnivore sign survey, dung count and waterhole count systems would be adopted, he added.
