Bhubaneswar: A youth impersonating as an electric meter reader entered into a house at Kharavel Nagar here on Wednesday and attacked the unsuspecting girl with sharp weapon.
The girl, an engineering student, hailing from Balasore had come to her uncles’ place at Kharavel Nagar. Today, an unidentified man on the plea of taking electric meter reading managed to enter the house and assaulted the girl while she was alone in the house.
When the girl raised alarm, the neighbours came to her rescue. However, the assaulter fled the spot. The girl was rushed to the hospital for medical assistance.
Handle of a sharp weapon recovered from the spot and the injuries of the victim indicated that she was stabbed. The girl sustained injuries on abdomen and face.
Though the reason behind the incident is unclear and yet to be ascertained, police are investigating the matter.
