Team India’s premier speedster Jasprit Bumrah sustained injury during the Sydney Test against Australia. However, the severity of his injury is still being evaluated. It remains unclear whether it’s a minor back spasm or a more serious stress fracture. Hence the pacer’s participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is currently uncertain.

Due to his injury, the stand-in-captain of the Indian team did not bowl in the second innings of the Sydney Test. Moreover, he is expected to miss the upcoming ODI series against England starting February 9.

As per several reports, Bumrah’s participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy is also not certain. The mega event begins on February 20. However, Bumrah’s participation in the tournament will depend on his recovery and medical clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

According to Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, Bumrah’s injury is being monitored closely and the medical team is trying it’s best to ensure his fitness.

Bumrah himself has expressed frustration over the injury. The premier pacer also harped on the importance of respecting his body and prioritizing recovery.

As per sources close to BCCI, Bumrah’s name is expected to feature in the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy. However, his inclusion in the Indian team for the mega event will be conditional on his fitness.

If Bumrah recovers in time, he might be available for the knockout stages of the tournament if India manage to qualify.
