According to the sources, taking advantage of the Raja festival holiday, burglars struck at a residential house in the locality. The incident occurred when the homeowners were away celebrating, giving the miscreants an opportune moment to carry out the burglary.
Window was broken to barge into house
“The miscreants broke a window to gain entry into the house. Once inside, they looted gold ornaments valued at around Rs 5 lakh. The residents discovered the break-in upon returning and immediately reported the incident to the local police,” a senior official stated.
Police officials have launched a probe and are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the culprits. Locals have expressed concern over rising thefts during festive seasons and have urged for increased night patrolling and security measures.
This heist has sparked discussions about the need for stronger security measures, especially during the holidays when residences are more likely to remain unguarded.
The victim family had gone to Puri for a visit when the burglary occurred last night.
“After we entered the house, we got to see that the belongings were scattered here and there. Obviously, we got scared. All the rooms were left open, wardrobes broken, and valuables burgled, but imitations have been discarded,” the victim homemaker, said.
“Lack of adequate police patrolling has given rise to such crimes in this locality. We have no idea as to who are involved in the crime,” the middle-aged woman added.
