"Trained mahouts on three elephants, brought from Jim Corbett national park, have fanned out in the jungles to look for the tusker, which would be tranquilised and shifted to jungles of Rajaji national park," Rajaji park director S P Subudhi said.
However, there is also a possibility that it might be shifted to Jim Corbett park, he said. The 50-year-old tusker has killed five persons in Rishikesh-Narendranagar jungles in the past four months, creating a reign of terror in the Dhalwala forest range area.
Chief Wildlife Warden S S Sharma had earlier issued orders to kill the animal. However, it will now only be tranquilised and its behaviour studied by experts. "An expert team from Wildlife Institute of India has been constituted to study the behaviour of the tusker, once it is shifted," Subhudi said.
