Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni has been appointed as the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2025 after regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered injury.

Now, it has been learnt that former India captain Sourav Ganguly had pushed for Dhoni to be reinstated as the captain of CSK before it was officially confirmed.

Ganguly on Dhoni

Earlier, Ganguly had stated that Dhoni's presence in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is most impactful when he leads the CSK.

Ganguly described Dhoni as a 'different beast' in the captain's role. Interestingly, the assertion from Ganguly came just before CSK officially announced Dhoni's return as captain for the remainder of the IPL 2025 session.

"If MS Dhoni has to play for CSK, he must be captain of CSK. Because MS Dhoni, the captain, is a different beast," Ganguly remarked just prior to the official announcement from CSK.

Reflecting on Dhoni's enduring capabilities, Ganguly said, "MS Dhoni can still get sixes. We saw that in the other game. Obviously, he's 43 years old. We don't expect to see the MS Dhoni I saw in 2005. That's quite natural. But I think he's still got the power to clear and hit."

Cultural Icon Returns to Helm

In Indian cricket, Dhoni is celebrated not just for his tactical acumen but also for inspiring countless fans across the nation, embodying the spirit of resilience and leadership. His return to captaincy is anticipated to breathe new life into CSK as they navigate the challenges of this year's tournament.
