The Odisha government is set to introduce a work passbook and expand the work dashboard initiatives to bolster transparency in governance, stated Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Saturday.
In his interaction with the media, the minister stated that the introduction of these two schemes will bring greater transparency to project management, accelerate project completion, and ensure accountability.
What is the work passbook initiative?
The minister stated that the work passbook will declare the estimated cost, current progress, and other details and make them publicly accessible.
Citizens will be able to find all the required and updated information about specific projects on the department’s website, without the need to visit any administrative offices or file inquiries.
What is the work dashboard initiative?
While the work passbook will enable citizens to view a project’s status, the work dashboard will fetch data from all projects implemented by the PWD (Public Work Department) and make them available at the click of a button for concerned authorities.

The work dashboard, which has already been rolled out for some departments, will enable regular monitoring by the Chief Minister, departmental ministers, and officials. It will provide detailed insights, including project scale, implementing agencies, project status, regular updates, estimated costs, commencement dates, and progress levels in real time.
Law Minister’s statement
“We can view the completion status and all other details of any project at any given date. All of the data will be detailed and comprehensive to ensure regular and prompt monitoring.
Initially, this system will be implemented in the PWD and later expanded to the Panchayati Raj Department,” stated Prithiviraj Harichandan.

Benefits of the initiatives
The twin initiatives are expected to ensure transparency, timely completion, and quality assurance in public works while also enhancing government oversight and accountability in project execution. Further, these changes will also be adopted by all engineering departments after being introduced in the PWD.
