The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
After returning from the election management committee meeting in Delhi, Odisha BJP Chief Manmohan Samal told media persons that the party will not enter into any alliance in the State.
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Odisha on March 5, State Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena took stock of the arrangements on Friday.
"If the BJD is really considering an alliance with the BJP, the party which is its competitor and immediate successor in Odisha, one can better guess their current situation"
The controversy over the distribution of Rs 1000 livelihood assistance to beneficiaries doesn’t seem to die down as the BJP in Rayagada district on Thursday alleged that the money is being given by the Central government.
BJP leader Anil Biswal said, "On November 9, 2023, the Commerce and Transport Department provided Rs 260 crore to the OSRTC to procure buses. To date, the state government has given around Rs 1000 crore to the OSRTC to purchase buses. But a private company has been made the owner of the buses."
Polling was held for 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, four in Karnataka and one seat in Himachal Pradesh. On February 20, 41 candidates including BJP chief J P Nadda, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and L Murugan were elected unopposed to the Upper House.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha appears to be grappling with the problem of plenty with as many as 10,000 aspirants looking forward to enter the fray while there are only 168 tickets on offer (147 Assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats).
