This year, a few non-Odias also joined the Odia community to perform the sacred rituals on the occasion. Women tie a ceremonial sacred thread around a banyan tree, as part of the rituals.
The rituals of Savitri Brata symbolise the infinite power of a devout wife.
Transgenders in Bhubaneswar observed the Savitri Brata for their partners. These visuals are from Palaspalli area.
After taking bath in the morning, the kinnars wore new sarees, bright red bangles and applied vermillion on their forehead, before assembling near banyan tree to offer puja.
Fruits and flowers are offered to the Goddess Savitri today. Women also keep daylong fast praying for husband's longevity.
The Brata is said to be incomplete if women don’t listen to Savitri Brata Katha – the story of Savitri and Satyavan.
