The 3-week-long Chandan Jatra of Mahaprabhu Jagannath and His siblings kicked off on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya on Tuesday (on May 3). On the same day, began the Chandan Jatra of Lord Lingaraj in Bhubaneswar.

Holy Bindusagar Lake in Bhubaneswar lit up for Chandan Jatra of Lord Lingaraj.
The deities (Lord Lingaraj) are carried in palanquins to the boat in Bindusagar Lake.
The decorated boat known as ‘Chapa’ is then rowed in Bindusagar Lake.
Chandan Jatra in the pilgrim town of Puri began with ‘Chapa Khela’ in Narendra Pokhari (pond).
Devotion gripped Bada Danda as a large number of devotees congregated to witness Chandan Jatra of Mahaprabhu Jagannath and Ratha Katha Anukula – the commencement of construction of chariots for Ratha Jatra. In this picture, the wooden logs to be used for chariots are sanctified with Agyan Mala or the garland of permission of Mahaprabhu Jagannath.
