Zero mark to meritorious students: BSE to issue fresh mark lists

Cuttack:  The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, which declared some promising students failed in matric exams giving zero mark in some subjects inadvertently, will re-examine the tabulation and evaluation of the answer-sheets, Board sources said.

“Inadvertently, the number ‘1’was deleted during tabulation even as the students secured 100 marks in these subjects. So, the computer had taken it zero. We are re-examining the matter after receiving complaints from some students in the evening. Very soon, the fresh mark lists will be uploaded in website”, Board president Dakhya Prasad Nanda said. No student would be allowed to suffer for no fault of theirs, he added.

While the Board claimed to have made a commendable effort to announce results in record time, such fresh complaints have brought headache for the BSE authorities.

Some students drew the attention of the Board officials over the faulty evaluation and tabulation of mark lists. They complained that they were awarded zero mark in some subjects even though they secured above 60 per cent marks in other subjects. On receiving such complaints, the Board authorities declared 149 such students passed in first division in the evening of the result announcing day. They all will be provided with their fresh mark sheets by May 10 like other students, BSE officials said.

The BSE regretted for announcing such students failed inadvertently.
