Youth shot during village meeting in Odisha over love affair

In a shocking incident, a youth was shot in connection over a love affair at Dhepasahi village under Mohana police station in Gajapati district on Monday.

According to reports, a dispute had been ongoing for a long time over a love relationship. In an effort to settle the matter amicably and prevent further escalation, a village meeting was organised today. However, the meeting took a violent turn when the accused, identified as Santosh Pradhan, allegedly opened fire with a pistol, triggering panic and tension in the area.

The bullet reportedly hit Anil Kumar Karad, the brother of the girl involved in the relationship, on his right leg. As Anil collapsed in pain, chaos ensued at the spot. He was immediately rushed to Chandragiri Hospital by his family members. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment.

On receiving information, Mohana police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. The accused, Santosh Pradhan, has been detained at the police station. The pistol used in the firing has been seized by the police.

Police officials have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the firing.
