In a tragic incident, a young man was killed in an elephant attack at Bhuasunipatna village under Begunia police station in Khordha district on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Priyabrata Parida.
According to reports, a herd of 15 elephants has been roaming the areas close to the village, causing panic among local residents.
According to sources, the elephant herd entered the village vicinity on Thursday night, causing extensive damage to crops and property. The movement of the elephants led to fear and unrest among villagers, who remained alert throughout the night.

On Friday morning, villagers made an attempt to drive the elephant herd away from the area. During this effort, a tusker from the herd suddenly attacked the youth. The elephant trampled him, resulting in his death on the spot.
After receiving information about the incident, Forest Department officials rushed to the spot. The team recovered the body of the deceased and has intensified monitoring of the elephant herd to prevent further mishaps. Efforts are also underway to safely drive the elephants back into the forest.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern of human-elephant conflict in the region, with villagers demanding effective measures to ensure their safety and protect their livelihoods.
