Youth killed as ‘Ama Bus’ runs over motorcycle in Bhubaneswar

A fatal accident occurred on Friday at Satsang Vihar locality under Sahid Nagar police limits in Bhubaneswar, when an ‘Ama Bus’ allegedly ran over a young motorbike rider, claiming his life on the spot.

Eyewitnesses said the bus hit the motorcycle, causing the rider to fall under the vehicle’s wheels.

Irate locals immediately intercepted the bus, creating a tense situation at the mishap site. Authorities witnessed that the crowd’s agitation was gradually running high, with several bystanders expressing outrage over the incident.

Sahid Nagar police quickly arrived at the scene and worked to calm the residents while starting a preliminary investigation. Police officials said they are gathering details regarding the circumstances that led to the accident, including the speed and control of the bus at the time when the road mishap occurred.

The deceased’s identity and further details about the accident were yet to be ascertained. Investigators were yet to make an official statement in this regard.

No comments were even received from the CRUT authorities operating the Ama Bus.

Worth mentioning, earlier, the Ama Bus had hogged the headline on August 21. Panic gripped passengers travelling on an Ama Bus after the vehicle suddenly caught fire on National Highway-16 near Gadakharada Square in Khordha district in the afternoon.

The bus, which had been heading from Jagatpur locality in Cuttack towards Rameswar, was completely gutted in the blaze. Fortunately, all passengers managed to escape unharmed.

“As soon as the driver stopped, everyone rushed out. Within a few minutes, the entire bus was in flames,” one of the passengers, who credited the swift action of the crew for averting a tragedy, had recounted.
