Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre a youth went on rampage inside the State Secretariat and attacked an officer raising serious questions on the security arrangements at the bureaucratic nerve centre. Ironically, it happened while a review meeting on safety and security at the secretariat was going on.

The incident took place in the afternoon at 12:30 PM. The youth who has been identified as Sushant Nayak of Dhenkanal came to the Urban Development department to seek employment opportunity as a part of the rehabilitation process in place of his deceased father who was. Nayak wanted to meet the special secretary of the department. However, failing to meet the secretary after several attempts, the youth today went berserk and attacked his personal secretary with a knife.

“He came in the morning to meet the special secretary. I asked him to give a written request regarding the same as per the prescribe format of the office while he insisted on submitting an application. Subsequently, within no time he came towards me and put a knife on my throat, shouting that I killed his father” said the personal secretary of the special secretary Sasmita Mallick.

Meanwhile, Nayak has been handed over to the Police.

“We have got reports that he visited the department numerous seeking employment under the rehabilitation plan. Today after complaints that he attacked one of the officials, we have handed him over to the police,” said Yakub Khan, the ACP of Secretariat Security.

According to sources, the incident has revealed certain loopholes in the security system of the Secretariat.
