Bhubaneswar: Three girl students of a university in Bhubaneswar were allegedly beaten up by a youth near a theatre in Kharabela Nagar area of the capital city Monday evening.

The accused, whose identity is yet to be established, has been detained after a complaint was lodged by the girl students at Kharabela Nagar Police Station.

According to reports, the trio was returning home after watching a movie at the theatre, when the youth intercepted and started thrashing them with his belt. The girls were later rescued by the locals.

Though the exact reason behind the attack has not been ascertained, police have detained the youth and interrogating him to elicit his motive behind the attack.

On the other hand, the youth has feigned ignorance in the matter saying that he has not attacked anybody.

Further investigation into the incident is on.

This is the second such instance in the vicinity of a theatre in just a matter of three days. On Sunday, a journalist was hospitalised after being attacked by a group of youths inside a cinema hall near Acharya Vihar in Bhubaneswar for opposing lewd remarks on some women by the group.
