Workers on strike, water supply disrupted

Bhubaneswar: Pipe water supply has been completely disrupted in various cities of the State including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Rourkela as employees of the Public Health Department and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation department stopped working since last midnight pressing for their 3-point charter of demands including regularization of jobs.
Workers of both departments on Wednesday informed the newsmen at a press meet regarding their cease work. They protested government’s apathy towards their plight by wearing black badges for last two days. Their demands include regularization of jobs for the workers who have been working since 1993, hike of retirement age from 58 to 60 and abolition of work-charged system.
Meanwhile, MLA Prabhat Ranjan Biswal, who is the president and chief advisor of five water supply workers associations in Cuttack, resigned from the post citing that all associations have stopped working without any prior notification.
