Bhubaneswar: A worker died after drowning in a water chamber while repairing a pipeline at VSS Nagar here on Wednesday. The deceased worker, identified as B Rudra Dora was staying at Ganapati Basti under Nayapalli police limits in the city.

As per reports, while Dora was carrying out some maintenance work of the water supply pipeline of the Public Health Division (PHD) in the area, the concerned department released water in the five-feet-high water chamber. Though the labourer tried to get out of the chamber, his hand got stuck in the pipeline.

Some locals present at the spot rushed to the chamber to help Dora but could not help him get out of the chamber. Some even tried to flush out water from the chamber with buckets but as the volume of water inflow was very high, people could not drain out the water. Later the labourer died on the spot.

It is being alleged that due to the dereliction of duty on the part of the concerned PHD authorities, the water was released into the chamber leading to the death of Dora.
