Women’s reservation bill: BJD MP Bhartruhari meets Akhilesh Yadav

New Delhi: In a bid to give push to its demand for 33 per cent reservation for women in State assemblies and Parliament, BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab today met former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav in New Delhi.

Akhilesh reportedly visited the residence of Bhartruhari Mahtab in New Delhi to hold talks regarding the issue of 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. Sources said, Akhilesh also appreciated BJD’s move to demand for women’s reservation.

“I met the president of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav and handed him the letter of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 33 per cent of women reservation,” Mahtab said.

It is pertinent to mention that BJD parliamentarian from Puri, Pinaki Mishra met Jammu & Kashmir National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and held talks with him regarding the matter two days back.

Earlier, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had written to Prime Minister in December last year demanding necessary steps for passing the Bill for reservation of one-third of seats in Parliament and State Legislatures for women.
