Women SHG members detain bank manager for not granting loan
Puri: Tension ran high at IDBI’s Dandamukundapur branch under Pipili in Puri district today after more than hundred women of various Self Help Groups (SHGs) detained the bank manager for not granting them loan.
According to sources, the women members of various SHGs in Pipili area had applied for loans and also submitted the required documents. However it is alleged that bank authorities returned their papers yesterday after going through various processes.
Hundreds of aggrieved members of the SHGs arrived at the bank and detained the bank manager and gheraoed him.
They have also threatened to intensify their protest if they are not granted loans at the earliest, sources said.
“The State Bank of India grants huge loans to the SHGs, but IDBI bank has not granted a single loan over the past three months. After delaying in the name of processes, they returned the documents yesterday,” alleged an agitating woman, Jhunamani Mallick adding that the bank officials wanted bribe to approve the loans.
Meanwhile, the bank authorities are holding discussions with the agitating women to resolve the matter. No comments on the matter could be received from the bank officials.
