Baripada: Disgusted with free flow of liquor in Thakurmunda block of tribal dominated Mayurbhanj district, hundreds of women took law into their hands and ransacked all country-made liquor joints in the locality for the second day on Thursday.

The women alleged that though they had drawn the attention of authorities, no one ensured closure of the liquor joints. They alleged that the free flow of liquor has added to miseries of women in villges like Thakurmunda, Digdhar, Rugudibeda, Suninda, Charamara, Khuntaposhi, Chamakpur and Guhaldiha under Thakurmunda Block.

In groups, the women folk ransacked all the country made liquour sales point, including one licensed shop thereby damaging bottled countrymade liquour worth more than Rs 5 Lakh, police said.

Aggrieved at the growing consumption of liquour manufactured by the traders and increasing atrocities against them, the Women Self Help Groups [WSHG] took such an initiative in the absence of any prohibitory measures taken by the police and the administration inspite of several complaints made by them.

One licensed India-made foreign liquour (IMFL) outlet at Thakurmunda was also ransacked by the women.
